Post War Years

As Juliet famously asked, what’s in a name? As a band name, Post War Years suggests positive music, hopeful music, music to forget the bad and focus on the good; in short, the sort of music which, with all the apocalyptic economic sh*t that is going on, we might just need at the moment.
Hailing from Leamington Spa, Post War Years came together sorta by accident, with Simon accidentally asking Henry and Tom to come and audition as guitarists at the same time. He was too embarrassed to tell one of them to leave, and thus gained two guitarists instead of one. And boy, are we glad he did.

Currently based in East London and releasing their wares on Chess Club Records (their early singles, at least), their new single is only the second one to be released, almost a year after ‘Black Morning’. Towards the end of 2008 they took a break from recording, but they have been far from lazy, and have kept themselves busy playing gigs, supporting White Lies. They see themselves as a live band more than anything, getting tighter and tighter at playing – they have also supported, amongst others, MGMT, Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Lethal Bizzle.

Tom Vek, Clor, Battles and Left of the Pier are all cited as influences for their beat driven, synth ridden, math-y music, which is smattered with the electronic jerky sounds that have come to be synonymous with bands like Foals. Yet, they are not just another Foals rip off band – this is music that makes you want to move, no less.
So, what’s in a name? Post War Years live up to theirs, and I am convinced that, were they any other name, they would indeed sound just as sweet.
