The Stills

Evidence of a continually burgeoning series of Canadian alt-abiders, fast-rising quartet The Stills join the likes of The Hidden Cameras, Hot Hot Heat, Royal City and numerous others to spearhead a North American uprising… Or some such.

The Montreal foursome comprise vocalist/guitarist Tim Fletcher, drummer Dave Hamelin, guitarist Greg Paquet and bassist Oliver Crowe. Relocating last year to NYC, the band have since toured internationally – performing early UK dates with the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Rapture – and garnering widespread accolades for their complex hybrid of a sound: lush, majestic melodies coated in thick, arty guitars and sparse arrangements, flawlessly encapsulated via their archly engulfing debut, the ‘Rememberese’ EP of ’03.

Now bearing a high-profile deal for Britain, and the early signs of a media-furore, The Stills may feature a name similar to that of the garage-rock capacity, yet display signs of existing as far more engrossing and unique a prospect for the long-term, relevant future.

VICE RECORDS: Responsible for releasing the band\'s acclaimed, debut-EP, Vice Records is a happenin\' indie-label with not just a cool name - but a favourable back-catalogue, too. Oh, and a cult-magazine of the same name.
