Nigh-on impossible to ignore, the Liverpool scene is happening: a window found to finally rear recognition, after seemingly aeons of being sheltered from the limelight.
Just desserts that The Zutons also finally gain recognition, then. Headed up by the wiry and inquisitive vocal and lyrical stylings of frontman Dave McCabe, the five-piece additionally comprise guitarist Boyan Chowdbury, bassist Russell Pritchard, Abi Harding on sax, and drummer Sean Payne. Releasing their debut-release to critical acclaim across the board – ‘02’s ‘Devil’s Deal’ – and via the much-talked-about home to The Coral (Deltasonic Records), the band’s early performances at The Bandits’ Bandwagon club up in Liverpool had become the stuff of word-of-mouth legend, whilst shows further afield down south prompted collective salivations and salutations from the taste-makers and indie-elite alike.
Come a second single (‘Creepin’ An’ A Crawlin’), plus celebrity-support from touring-buddies The Thrills, and The Zutons are now on the eve on an unleashing of a new single and debut-LP. From the sights and sounds experienced already, prepare to dust and make room in your CD-collection for yet another unforgettable, if wilfully quirky, addition.
