The Horrors

BIOGRAPHY

It was a mutual love of '60s garage rock and obscure vinyl that unified Rhys Webb, Faris Badwan, Tom Cowan, Joshua Hayward and Joseph Spurgeon at various points during the early 2000’s. With a splash of black, a dash of make-up and Adams Family style stage-names; the final product was The Horrors.

Their first single; ‘Sheena Is a Parasite’ gained them noticeable exposure which snowballed into various NME tours and festival appearances; generating a lot of hype around their debut album - Strange House. The release of said record in March 2007 was followed by a world tour - however it was a bumpy ride. With too shallow a pocket; their support slot on Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s U.S tour was brought to a stop.

At the end of 2007, The Horrors announced the forthcoming recording of a new album. The album was produced by the band themselves, aided by a couple of legends - Craig Silvey, Geoff Barrow of Portishead, and film director extraordinaire; Chris Cunningham.

Recording took place in Bath during the summer of 2008. Experimenting with new sounds consisted of home-made effects pedals, synth binges and booze sold in petrol cans – “if you want your guitars to sound drunk and loose then you don’t need a pedal or anything like that. You just need to get drunk before you play...” (Joshua Third).

The new mature sound of Primary Colours has shocked critics and fans alike in the best way possible, resulting in a nomination for a Mercury Prize. Undoubtedly high off of the success of their latest album; The Horrors embark on lengthy and global tour, one notable date being their headline slot at Offset Festival on Sunday the 6th of September.
