Born Ruffians

Born Ruffians, as a concept, was itself born in Midland, Ontario with the musical melding of the minds of Luke Lalonde, Mitch DeRosier an Steve Hamelin. You’re more likely to find them in Toronto at the minute, mind. Or on tour. They’re always on tour.

Their first record, a self titled EP recorded by a fellow titled Ryan Mills, saw the light of day via the UK based XL Recordings label in 2006. Their second is a remarkable album entitled Red Yellow and Blue, produced by a fellow with a remarkable name – Rusty Santos – who also made Sung Tongs by Animal Collective sound like it did (brilliant).

Born Ruffians are probably the only band capable of touring the UK with Caribou, covering Grizzly Bear and appearing on an episode of Channel 4’s ‘teens off their tits’ drama Skins (they played themselves in a hope that it would make them famous “like 902190 did for the Flaming Lips”). We can think of nothing we don’t like about them, and the list of things we do like has just started on its ninetieth page.

**COMING SOON**: The vexingly handsome Chris Helsen last week met up with two of the Ruffians for a chat regarding all issues that could possibly be of any importance. The fruits of the discussion shall appear on Rockfeedback in good time.
