BIOGRAPHY –
HEALTH formed in 2006, and have been gradually climbing up the indie ladder since, playing a major part in the LA “Smell Scene” – essentially centered around a load of cool bands (like The Mae Shi, No Age and Abe Vigoda) that play at the now-legendary all ages venue in Los Angeles, The Smell.
HEALTH are such a part of the furniture at the venue that they recorded their debut album in there themselves, admitting that they didn’t really have a clue what they were doing. Even though money was initially tight, the band teasingly started to play gigs for free - no wonder promoters can’t resist them.
Last year HEALTH toured with Of Montreal and Nine Inch Nails, and will release their second album Get Colour on September 7th via City Slang. It’s a melancholic departure from their angrier, self-titled debut, and was recorded in a technically illegal venue- mysterious! In John’s words: “this record is you crying like a bitch in high school.”
The HEALTH boys have come up with the idea to put golden tickets in 66 copies of Get Colour; only 6 of which will be sold in the UK, but to help you out all the copies with the golden tickets inside will be in Rough Trade record shops. Every ticket will win you a prize that is personal to the band, a scarf knitted by one of their nans or something like that, and the grand prize is two tickets to LA where the winner and a friend can hang out with the HEALTH guys in their natural habitat.
