Mumford and Sons

Folksy friends of the Mercury-nominated Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons have just signed to Island Records.
It’s easy to assume that, with their Americana tones, the band hail from the deepest depths of Greenwich Village when in fact they are Londoners- Marcus Mumford (vocals, guitar, drums) and Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboard, organ) went to King’s College School in Wimbledon with Noah and the Whale’s Matt Owens.
With Mumford and Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane complete the band on vocals/banjo/dobro and vocals/double bass respectively. The boys have three E.P.s under their belt, ‘Lend Me Your Eyes’ and ‘Love Your Ground’, both released in 2008 and ‘The Cave and the Open Sea’ (2009)
Just this year they were in the BBC’s sound of 2009 along with La Roux, The Big Pink and Passion Pit. We love Marcus’ dulcet tones- they give the band’s songs a beautiful lullaby quality, and of course no great folk band is complete without a banjo(that includes you, Metallica). It’s without a doubt that Mumford and Sons will infiltrate the public consciousness at large with their debut album later this year.
