The Open

Days are young. So you need not know much more than what follows, re: The Open, aka the epic conjurors and songsmiths of 2004, i.e. one of the brightest beacons of hope we presently bear, e.g. on a scale presently with few others. Full-stop. New paragraph.
They number but five – each member resplendent and earnest in their enthusing over the varied likes of Radiohead, The Verve, XTC, literature and chess. Their sound is on a grand scale similar to those few aforementioned artistes – landscaping, enveloping, blood-rushing... an aural artform unafraid to pack a severe punch and not apologise for the mess it leaves afterwards.
The outlet for their pained, beautiful wrenches of soul: Loog Records, home to otherwise wiry, wired modern blues-punkers Mr David Viner and The Hiss. Releases to date: the shimmering flurry of manic loveliness, ‘Never Enough’, and new ear-batterer ‘Close My Eyes’. May this mark the start of something truly vociferous.
