The Pattern

The Pattern’s beginning, unlike most other band-histories, didn’t really mark the coming together of five, naïve, inexperienced musical-wannabes; more likely, their origination was that of forming a supergroup, i.e. a handful of characters that had already proven their worth within other Bay Area outfits – and, so we know, the line-up forms: Christopher (vocals), formerly of The Peechees; Jason (guitar), from Saint James Infirmary fame; Carson (bass), once an addition to The Cutz; Andy (guitar), a man that played a part within Nuisance; and Scott (drums), who may have been last seen in the past masquerading his skills as a unit in Heart Of Snow.
Following an ensuing wave of excitement following their early tours, the band soon got down to recording – emerging with debut mini-release, ‘Immediately’. Handily, frontman Chris Appelgren happened to be the president of cult indie-label, Lookout! Records, and was able to accommodate the release on his own imprint. Before long, overseas demands set in – particularly from the UK – for the band to strut their energised, influenced rock ‘n’ roll on foreign stages; with Wichita Recordings bagging the rights to release the band’s material over in Britain, festival-appearances and tours soon looming, the act’s notoriety for no-nonsense, full-on energy and spirited performances soon had the usually-cynical music-media yearning for more.
Now, with further global-dates planned for the rest of 2002, to accompany the band’s release of debut-LP, ‘Real Feelness’, the heat surrounding The Pattern is inevitably set to get even hotter.
