The Polyphonic Spree

Typically, most classic bands don’t specifically have an exact start-date to their musical-acts officially being declared as ‘formed’, the process just occurring naturally. But The Polyphonic Spree aren’t like ‘most classic bands’. And, so, it’s only fitting that we know for certain that the Texan twenty-five piece ‘group’ formed on July 15th, 2000.

The Polyphonic Spree

Since that start-date, when frontman and chief-songwriter Tim DeLaughter first cultivated the project, things have been non-stop for the unique ensemble. Following an ecstatically-received performance at Austin’s SxSW music-conference, the world’s media and industry prepared itself to try and grasp the act for whatever purpose possible – from getting them to sign on the dotted-line for publishing and label rights, to arranging high-profile interviews with DeLaughter for top publications.

And, with radio-airplay for debut-single ‘Soldier Girl’ proving more than favourable, and fans allowing the band’s performances to sell out almost instantaneously, The Polyphonic Spree have become the phenomenon of 2002. But, this is just the start – and, sheesh, the album hasn’t even been officially released within most of the world yet… Hold on tight.
