Yuck

Biography:
Yuck are the latest finalists to join the likes of Warpaint and Esben & The Witch on the shortlist for the BBC’s Sound of 2011, putting the buzz band on level pegging with last year’s well documented success stories like Ellie Goulding, Marina & The Diamonds and Owl City. It’s a good shout from the bods at the Beeb, who tend to have their finger on the pulse when it comes to predicting next year’s musical landscape. Yeah, it could be argued predicting something you have a hand in shaping is a pretty self fulfilling exercise, but hey, on this occasion we couldn’t agree with them more. This quartet who only came together last year appear to have already cracked it with their own brand of grunge infused pop.
Yuck is Max Bloom and Daniel Blumberg’s follow up project in the aftermath of Cajun Dance Party’s 2009 hiatus. Debut releases ‘Georgia’ and ‘Rubber’ do a perfect job of outlining the outfit’s strong pop sensibilities, whilst filling in the gaps with grittier undertones that successfully side step becoming invasive. The product is something that sounds both familiar and fresh at the same time, infectious tracks that will have you nodding your head without you realising it.

In fact, it’s striking just how tight Yuck sound on record, a strangely disconcerting characteristic for a band that have been playing together for barely a year. However it’s this nonchalant confidence and stubborn youthfulness that gives their songs an instant likeability that we find rather irresistible.
The band are currently in the process of preparing themselves for what’s set to be a very busy year. After a series of well received performance’s at this year’s In The City, the band have a handful of UK dates penned in prior to Christmas before launching into a full European assault in March. The self titled debut album is due for release on 21st Februaryand features both of the aforementioned singles.
