The Sleepy Jackson

Perth’s central purveyors of obscure, off-kilter barmy-rock, The Sleepy Jackson comprise vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Luke Steele, bassist Rod, drummer Mal, and guitarist/vocalist Justin.
Australians with horizons far further than their own shores, the foursome first burst on to their homeland-scene with the release of the ‘Caffeine In The Morning Sun’ EP – a record featuring material which bamboozled its way on to cult, alt radio-station Triple J, and garnered significant interest far afield, enough to prompt tours with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Doves and Supergrass.

With another EP – ‘Let Love Be Your Love’ – it was only a small matter of time before international-waters beckoned, and – rightfully so – with a spotlight finally cast on the Antipodean scene after successes overseas via fellow southern-hemisphereans The Datsuns and The Vines, The Sleepy Jackson began gaining press in Britain for their heady blend of comedy, aching, woeful sincerity and classic showmanship.
With their debut UK shows sold out in advance at the start of 2003, and mounting interest over their just-released, eponymous mini-album, it seems that The ‘Jackson are gonna have to stay far away from Sleepy in order to keep up with demand. And, yes, we apologise for that ghastly, cheap play on words.
