Everything Everything

Biography:

“If we like it we'll listen to it and work out what makes it good. There are hundreds of years of amazing music to draw on. Why place restrictions on yourself?" – Everything Everything

As the four boys of Everything Everything prepare themselves for what is expected to be an exciting 2011, being regarded as one of the most promising music prospects within the UK throughout 2010 has already set the tone for this four piece. Within the band, surnames are not deemed important - the four boys list themselves all as Mr Everything, ever since the band formed in 2007 under lead vocalist and guitarist Jonathan bringing together the remaining members with Jeremy (bass), Mike (drums) and completing the line up with Alex (guitar).

Originating from Manchester, with connections to Newcastle and even as far as Kent, their meeting at University lead to the boys producing one of the most exciting records of the past year.  Their debut LP Man Alive was released on the 30th August 2010, entering the UK album charts at the highly respectable position of number seventeen.  Their music has seen them nominated for a variety of awards, including a nod from last year’s BBC Sound of 2010 poll, missing out to eventual winner Ellie Goulding.

The rise of Everything Everything, whilst quick, is not surprising however.  An intriguingly diverse set of sounds aside, their lyrics can both prompt chin scratching, ponderous moments and cause the odd snicker, such as when they ask the question “who’s gonna sit on your face when I’m gone?” in their single  ‘Suffragette Suffragette’ (they claim it’s “the fence”, not “face”, but whatever). The album is one of tremendous style and intent, the boys embracing a variety of genres to build upon core influences such as The Smiths and Radiohead.  True definition of the band’s style remains a very difficult task, with influences within progressive rock, pop based melodies and electronic sounds to boot.

Though their roots are in the north of England, the quartet have set themselves the challenge of exploring new sounds away from that of iconic bands such as Oasis and Arctic Monkeys. As bassist Jeremy adds, “we have never been comfortable with the indie tag”, and with their added love for R&B Everything Everything do indeed seek to tap into a wider variety of genres in creating their unique sound. As stated on their website the boys, are not afraid to experiment, "It's all to do with how you present yourselves" explains Jeremy further. "An R&B cliché can sound great when it's played by four skinny white men."

As these four skinny white men ready themselves for what is expected to be a chaotic UK tour (dates below), the future looks promising. With dates booked around the country, the days of local pubs and toilet venues seem a world away as they prepare huge venues from Brixton to Glasgow.  As we witnessed upon broadcasting their Union Chapel show complete with a full orchestra – the first of its kind ever to be televised not only across the internet but also live to iPhones and iPads – an Everything Everything live show is something to behold.  And whether it be through revolutionising the way in which we interact with future bands and concerts or their much talked about second album, (though no date is scheduled as yet), our excitement for their extraordinary sound shows no signs of waning.

To coincide with the tour, the band release a new single ‘Photoshop Handsome’ today (17th January 2011).  Watch the video below.
