What of GLC?

Well, they’re a distinctly bad-ass, Welsh collective that specialise in a multitude of infectious rap-pop-hop odes to pedestrian living in the 21st Century. They can be described as a variety of things – chavs, townies, clarts, kevs; all are relevant.

They wear tracksuits, have catchphrases (‘You knows it!’, ‘Safe as f**k!’, etc.) conjure funny hand-gestures, dance like pricks, and make music that’ll send your jaw racing with agonising laughter while your hips attempt to keep up. They’ve become a cult in their native Newport, Wales, where their urban rhymes/grimes were enough to send the Super Furry Animals and The Darkness doo-lalley, both inviting the literally massiiiive collective on UK tours, whilst their online-clips of material gave global audiences a free downloadable demonstration of their infectious product.

Now signed to East-West, putting them in the lofty climes of the ‘big league’, a debut-single ‘Half Man Half Machine’ managed to scrape the top-40 despite little promotion back in Spring 2004, while an impending, testimonial ‘Guns Don’t Kill People, Rappers Do’ is expected to be a f**king uber-hit. Their album ‘Greatest Hits’ is out later this year. Our favourite GLC number? Their staple set-closer, ‘Your Mother’s Got A Penis’. Yes, kids will love them.

OFFICIAL SITE: To be found either via youknowsit.co.uk or goldielookinchain.com, on the group’s main site you can email the band directly via a suspiciously personal Hotmail account, and just laugh at the knowing shabbiness presented to us from the Newport combo. There’s also a truck-load of mp3s up for grabs and a stellar ‘top trumps’ collection profiling each idiosyncratic member of the multi-unit.

HOW TO ROLL A SPLIFF: Obviously, we at rockfeedback don’t condone the indulgence of potentially harmful substances – but that’s not to say that GLC don’t; their smoke-infested tales of stoned debauchery are shameless. Bless/condemn them for it.
