Maximo Park

Numbering Duncan Lloyd on guitars, Paul Smith singing, Archis Tiku with his bass, drummer Tom English and Lukas Wooller and some keyboards, the Park have become one of the mostly hotly contended new band forces in the country.

And swelteringly quickly, too. After an initial forming in the band’s native Newcastle, it was merely a case of crafting and honing a red-hot succession of would-be dancefloor-infiltrators for the discerning rock-fan’s ear. They’ve done pretty well.

Limited-edition releases of the band’s soon followed – the embarrassingly rare ‘The Coast Is Always Changing’ 7” and two-track ‘Graffiti’ CD – and are now scarce Ebay fodder, while upcoming single proper ‘Apply Some Pressure’ – as released by new home, dance/avant-garde label Warp – is set to see them gatecrash the charts in a most combative and awkwardly assured manner.

See them soar. Watch them prosper. Maximo Park is a joyous land to visit. You’ll never leave.

OFFICIAL WEBSITE: Proudly bolshy, and very red, website from the northern, furious pop-punk knee-jerkers.

WARP RECORDS: More known for a roster bearing Aphex Twin and Autechre, that Warp signed Maximo Park displays quite succinctly their ever-jilted, inspired preference to procure and release genius of all forms and types on this most distorted of planets.

SINGLE REVIEW – ‘APPLY SOME PRESSURE’ 2005: that long-awaited, debut-proper from a band whose singer is partial to a bit of Jarvo Cocker hip-swaggering and geekdom.

ARTICLE – WEEKLY EDITORIAL, DEC 2004: alongside Coxon, The Pipettes and fellow other joyous musical urchins, the Park astound us live at a Queens Of Noize Xmas bash.
