Distophia
Distophia is the critically acclaimed, four-pronged, Birmingham, UK combo that has stolen hearts (and then subsequently trampled upon them) in the latter embers of Autumn 2003.
And a set of musos formed via the vision of a barely-teenager (Pete Dixon), lank-haired bassist (Seb Lenton), drummer Tom Whitfield and guitarist John Biggs, they are f**king fantastic – a catastrophic car-crash of rumbling reverberations, gesticulating bellows, roaring guitars and calamity-strewn drums. It’s the greatest lo-fi-cum-hardcore noisy pop-treat you’re likely to have heard this year (check the evidence: a debut in ’03 of the ‘Soda Lake’ mini-LP).
Bands and contemporaries such as The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Alec Empire and Kaito agree, having played alongside them on bills lately. Nice. Expect onwards and upwards for this lot, and then some.
