Gallows

Gallows are Frank Carter (Vocals), Laurent Barnard (Guitar), Frank’s brother Steph Carter (Guitar). Stuart Gili-Ross (Bass) and Lee Barratt (Drums), a hardcore punk band formed from the ashes of Winter in June and My Dad Joe. They’re from Watford, and they’ve not even been a band for two years yet.
During relentless touring around the toilet venues and punk rock hangouts of the UK, they recorded their first demo in 2005 (given an official release on seven inch this year through Holy Roar records), which gained them the attention of Nottingham indie label In At The Deep End, the imprint which would be the first to release their incendiary debut LP ‘Orchestra of Wolves’ in 2006.
After countless more stints of stage destroying live shows and a split 7” with November Coming Fire released on Thirty Days of Night Records, a decision was made that playing music influenced by the likes of Converge, Black Flag and Minor Threat solely to fans of Converge, Black Flag and Minor Threat was a little like chasing their own tails. To get their message across to as many people as would listen, the band signed a £1 million, four album deal with Warner Bros. records, the first release from the partnership being a reissued version of ‘Orchestra Of Wolves’, backed with a whole second CD of live cuts, covers and new songs (that’ll be the one that’s out this week, then…)
One of the most visceral live bands you could ever hope to see – as the whole of the world’s assembled music press agreed after they stole the show at this year’s South By Southwest conference in Texas, USA – they’ve blown everyone from Mastodon to Jamie T, from Boris to, er, Amy Winehouse, conclusively off the stage.

**COMING SOON** - we’re in the process of pinning the band down for a chat, and we’re mildly terrified. We’re sure they’re lovely lads though, the kind who love Black Flag and their mums.

GALLOWS MYSPACE: Gallows’ web presence at present is a little thin on the ground (expect that to change), but at least they’ve gone and pimped their MySpace good and proper. Here, along with the usual crap, you get four tracks to stream – including the rare split with November Coming Fire and the demo version of current single ‘Abandon Ship’, first released way back in 2005.
IN AT THE DEEP END RECORDS: ‘Orchestra of Wolves’ found its first home on this Nottingham indie, a label who continue to release quality punk rock at an alarming pace.

COME FRIENDLY BOMBS MP3: A free download of a characteristically volatile moment of musical excess from Gallows.
ABANDON SHIP: The band’s first single proper gets a going over.
GALLOWS @ LONDON BARFLY, JUNE ’07: We were lucky enough to be in attendance at the band’s most recent, bouncer baiting, stage destroying London show.
