Sunset Rubdown

For a year, Sunset Rubdown was purely another avenue down which Spencer Krug, also a member of Swan Lake, Frog Eyes and most famously Wolf Parade, could channel the torrent of solo songs he was writing – because, y’know, three bands just wasn’t enough, as you’ll understand.

Starting off as a decidedly lo-fi, bedroom electronica, keyboardan’alaptop kind of thang (you know the score), Spence released two records under the Sunset Rubdown name (the ‘Snakes Got A Leg’ LP in mid 2005 via Global Symphonic in Canada, and a more widely available self titled EP a year later) before making the side project more of a central concern, and adding Jordan Robson Cramer (a sometime XY Lover and Magic Weapon member), Mike Doerkson and Camilla Wynne Ingr (formerly of Pony Up!) as full time members.

The Montreal band’s expanded line up released its first full length album in the states last year, under the title of ‘Shut Up, I Am Dreaming’ – and that’s the record that finally gets its full UK release via Rough Trade this week. Yet right this minute, they’re busy recording the follow up – a record called ‘Random Spirit Lover’ which will be released in October of 2007. Hang on a minute – that’s this year! Making the ’07 perhaps the best year for records ever, no?

**Coming soon** - Rockfeedback will be hooking up with Spencer Krug to discuss his multifarious genius, and in doing such, will provide one of the first pieces of UK press for Sunset Rubdown to be found anywhere. Go us.

MYSPACE.COM/SUNESTRUBDOWN: Yep, Sunest rather than Sunset - whoever set up this MySpace fan page cared not much for spelling, yet certainly, and understandably, likes Spencer’s work – stream four tracks from the man here.

MYSPACE.COM/SPENCERKRUG: This more official site, for Krug himself, currently has three tracks from ‘Shut Up I Am Dreaming’ and a rare 2005 demo for your ears.

ABSOLUTELYKOSHER.COM/SUNSETRUBDOWN: Stock up on your Sunset Rubdown back catalogue, and buy some T Shirts.

DAYTROTTER FEATURE: Fantastic insight and interview from the fellows at Daytrotter.

WOLF PARADE / SUNSET RUBDOWN FANSITE: Primarily a Wolf Parade fan site, this one – but with a wealth of Sunset Rubdown information to share also.

PICK OF THE STEREO: Tom Hannan uses Rockfeedback’s monthly assessment of our own record collections to get all excited and offer a brief review of ‘Shut Up I Am Dreaming’ – Tim Dellow’s full assessment will follow within days.
