The Answering Machine

The Answering Machine are Martin on guitars and vocals, Patrick on guitars and Gemma on bass. And a drum machine called Mustafa Beat, who has his own MySpace profile. The three human members of the band come from Crewe, the Midlands and New Mills respectively. The drum machine, we expect, came from the shop. But it was probably made in Taiwan.

Regardless, they all met in the student union bar whilst at Manchester University and bonded over a love of that seminal first Strokes album ‘Is This It’. Despite having been around for less than a year, they’ve already played shows with the Rumble Strips and found time to release a single, ‘Oklahoma’, on legendary Manchester indie High Voltage – all 500 copies of which were hand decorated by the band themselves. How much Mustafa had to do with that we’re unable to confirm.
