James Yuill is a 27 year old gentleman who makes songs with a guitar and a laptop. Yeah, he likes Nick Drake and Sufjan Stevens and all that – he’s a singer songwriter, after all. But he also likes Aphex Twin and the Chemical Brothers quite a lot. This makes him interesting.

Huw Stephens, Colin Murray, John Kennedy, Rockfeedback... we’re all fans. Audiences at South by Southwest, Radio One’s Big Weekend and Latitude festivals agree. What else can we tell you about James? He used to work selecting music for adverts on television, but that’s not very interesting is it? Far more noteworthy is his work remixing the likes of The Answering Machine and Tilly and the Wall, under the alias Hunger/Thirst. He does a killer version of Radiohead’s ‘Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box’. But even better is his own stuff - his debut album is about to come out, and it’s called Turning Down Water For Air. Moshi Moshi records are releasing it, which is about as good a badge of quality as you’re likely to get. This is the kind of music that can convince a person that everything’s gonna be alright.

’NO SURPRISE’ – ORIGINAL RELEASE SINGLE REVIEW: “It’s introspective and courageous; melancholy and full of zest. Sentiments of love driven though the heart with the steak of musical experiment where echoes of Kings Of Convenience shimmer in parts...” – Sofie Jenkinson

’NO PINS ALLOWED’ - VIDEO: “No Pins Allowed’ brings things into an intense realm of almost trance-like electronica; with emotional acoustic song writing still firmly at its heart...” – Daniel Monsell
