Howling Bells

02.03.09

Howling Bells’ bio reads something like the dream of every teenager who has ever picked up a guitar. Formed in Sydney in 2004, the band signed with Bella Union shortly after coming together. On moving to the UK they released their self titled long player in 2006, produced by Ken Nelson. It received positive press and critical acclaim across the board, with a promising 9/10 in the NME. The band then spent the next 2 years touring Europe, Australia and the US extensively alongside the likes of The Killers, Placebo and Snow Patrol.

In 2008 they returned to the studio with producer Nigel Godrich (Radiohead) in an attempt to build on the success of the psychedelic rock sound that triumphantly rolled through critics favourites ‘Setting Sun’ and ‘Low Happening’. March 2009 sees the release of their sophomore effort on Independiente Records, entitled Radio Wars. The initial outlook is good, with first single ‘Cities Burning Down’ echoing the notions of its aforementioned predecessors. A tricky release for any band, especially in the light of all the extra anticipation drummed up by a 2 year hiatus, Howling Bells return with the only ingredient that they failed to deliver initially - experience.
