Keane

Arising from the not-so-musically-synonymous Battle in Sussex, Britain, Keane are three humble troubadours set to slay 2004.

Well, not so much slay, perhaps, as swoon. This is a trio whose prerogative is to reflect the beauty in their hearts – just winning vocals (Tom Chaplin), lilting piano (Tim Rice-Oxley), and drums (Richard Hughes): all that’s needed.

Obviously, Fierce Panda – perennial, known scene-definers and taste-makers in the UK – got the message. At just a second acoustic show, the band were snapped up for a first single-release by the label’s Simon Williams – and ‘Everybody’s Changing’ was unearthed, immediate proof positive of just why BMG Publishing had bagged the group for a deal in the summer of 2002.

The single heightened the interest – the industry reacted, and Island signed the band for a long-term, major record-contract. Score. A second single via Fierce Panda – ‘This Is The Last Time’, a relative indie-hit – and the greater world is now waiting. And with good reason.
