GoGo Penguin present a live performance of their original score to Godfrey Reggio’s cult film Koyaanisqatsi performed live with the film.

Originally scored by Philip Glass, Koyaanisqatsi is a remarkable cinematic masterpiece and a firm favourite of the band’s for it’s powerful fusion of music and image. In 2015 GoGo Penguin wrote and performed their new score for the film as part of the opening season of Home – a new centre for international contemporary art, theatre and film in Manchester.

GoGo Penguin’s richly emotional music offers a perfect contemporary dialogue with Reggio’s profound images. Moving from fragile beauty to powerful frenzy their rich new score reflects the original themes of the film and in performance offers an over-whelming audio-visual experience that will appeal to fans of GoGo Penguin and cult cinema in equal measure.

This production was originally commissioned by HOME in Manchester as part of the Music and Film Project, supported by Film Hub North West Central, part of the BFI Film Audience Network , and the PRS for Music Foundation.

Helado Negro returns with This Is How You Smile, an album that freely  ickers between clarity and obscurity, past and present geographies, bright and unhurried seasons. Miami-born, New York-based artist Roberto Carlos Lange embraces a personal and universal exploration of aura – seen, felt, emitted – on his sixth album and second for RVNG Intl.

Following Lange’s personal-as-political 2016 album Private Energy, re-released as Private Energy (Expanded) in 2017, This Is How You Smile  nds vitality in turning the privacy dial further inward. On “Please Won’t Please,” the album’s  rst o ering and opening track, Lange sets the scene with a spare drumbeat that moves the music forward in a more maligned than militant march, his voice tenderly permits himself weariness: “We light ourselves on  re, just to see if anyone believes.” Something must be reserved, “will anyone rescue what’s left of me.” This Is How You Smile only grows and glows brighter from there; an album that meditates on the slow, eternal love of family, and gently proposes revisiting those feelings as a way to relate to and beyond our core of familiarity.

Through her folkloric mystique, otherworldly psychedelia, and a dash of enigmatic punk, Ahomale by Combo Chimbita catapults the sacred knowledge of our forebears into the future. Their second studio album and Anti- Records debut sees the visionary quartet drawing from ancestral mythologies and musical enlightenment to unearth the awareness of Ahomale, the album’s cosmic muse. Comprised of Carolina Oliveros’ mesmeric contralto, illuminating storytelling and fierce guacharaca rhythms, Prince of Queens’ hypnotic synth stabs and grooving bass lines, Niño Lento’s imaginative guitar licks, and Dilemastronauta’s powerful drumming, the lure and lore of Combo Chimbita comes into existence.

The legend begins with their first EP, 2016’s El Corredor del Jaguar, and followed up with the occult psychedelia of Abya Yala. In 2019’s Ahomale, the New York-by-way-of-Colombia troupe fuse the perennial rhythms of the Afro-Latinx diaspora with a modern-day consciousness, while tracing the prophetic traditions of our ancestry. “The more we’ve played music together, the more we began to discover things within ourselves that we were previously unaware of, almost like a energy. And that’s being communicated through our music,” explains Prince of Queens in the making of Ahomale.

Du Blonde may sound like a band, but in fact it is, and always has been, the work of just one person. Beth Jeans Houghton.

Her new album Lung Bread For Daddy delves even deeper into self sufficiency, seeing Beth take the reigns on production, instrumentation, album artwork and direction of music videos. This project is entirely her own.  “I've always known exactly what I want my records to sound like and apart from drums, I have the ability to play all the instruments, so why wouldn't I? It was also a ‘fuck you’ to anybody who has made me feel like my playing abilities were not good enough over the years.”  Houghton states defiantly.

Lung Bread For Daddy veers wildly between genres reminiscent of proto-punk, psych rock and the wholesome song writing of the 1970’s, taking the listener on a journey through the landscape of her past. It is an honest and often uncomfortable look into the life of a person who’s experiences (“ My lyrics are always autobiographical. I can't write fictional lyrics.” ) have been touched by a myriad of characters, homes across continents, periods of extreme loneliness, mental illness and a search for an understanding of personal identity.

A few years ago, while in a tour van somewhere in Idaho, the members of Chastity Belt—Julia Shapiro, Gretchen Grimm, Lydia Lund, and Annie Truscott—opted to pass the time in a relatively unusual fashion: They collectively paid one another compliments, in great and thoughtful detail. This is what we like best about you, this is why we love you. 

I think of that image all the time, the four of them opening themselves up like that, by choice. It’s hard to imagine other bands doing the same. But beyond their troublesome social media presence—see: the abundance of weapons-grade duck face, the rolling suitcase art—and beyond the moonlit deadpan of say, “IDC,” lies, at the very least, an honesty and an intimacy and an emotional brilliance that galvanizes everything they do together. Which is a fancy way of saying: They’re funny, but they’re also capable of being vulnerable. “Giant Vagina” and “Pussy Weed Beer,” two highlights from their aptly titled 2013 debut, No Regerts, were immediately preceded by a sublime yet easily overlooked cut named “Happiness.” I saw a younger, still unsettling version of myself all across 2015’s Time to Go Home. 

I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone, their third and finest full-length to date, was recorded live in July of 2016, with producer Matthew Simms (Wire) at Jackpot! in Portland, Oregon (birthplace of some of their favorite Elliott Smith records.) It’s a dark and uncommonly beautiful set of moody post-punk that finds the Seattle outfit’s feelings in full view, unobscured by humor. There is no irony in its title: Before she had Chastity Belt, and the close relationships that she does now, Shapiro considered herself a career loner. That’s no small gesture. I can make as much sense of this music as I can my 20s: This is a brave and often exhilarating tangle of mixed feelings and haunting melodies that connects dizzying anguish (“This Time of Night”) to shimmering insight (“Different Now”) to gauzy ambiguity (“Stuck,” written and sung by Grimm). It’s a serious record but not a serious departure, defined best, perhaps, by a line that Shapiro shares early on its staggering title track: “I wanna be sincere.” 

When asked, their only request was that what you’re reading right now be brief, honest, free of hyperbole, and “v chill.” When pressed for more, Truscott said, “Just say that we love each other. Because we do.”

“The Chicago quartet’s debut is well-oiled and worn-in indie rock, played with the precision and confidence typically expected from a band much further along in its career.” – Pitchfork

Deeper’s Origins date back to 2014 when prior to releasing any material an abrupt line-up change left the Chicago based band looking for a new direction. Singer and guitarist Nic Gohl along with childhood friend, guitarist Mike Clawson and drummer Shiraz Bhatti threw out all of their old songs and brought on bassist Drew McBride to round out the lineup. The subsequent demos leaned on intricate guitar interplay, direct “of the times” vocals and a spirit that speaks to the band’s collective place in this pit of endless internet.

Deeper honed their sound over the course of 2015 & 16’ in basements, lofts, and anywhere that would have them. Touring the demos and landing at a fully realized inflection point. Call it Post-Punk, call it Indie Rock, it’s a record that steps in and out of boxes filtered through an unmistakable midwestern lens.

As social norms and political ideologies distort, writing and creating art was the only way to control the growing voice in the band’s collective head. The conceptualizing of the album started and stopped over that two year time warp culminating in a few feverish tracking sessions in late 2017. What was left is a stark shimmering portrait of a modern American experience.

Sarah Klang is the 26-year-old singer songwriter that hails from Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city.  Since 2016 she has been releasing what she describes as pop songs laced with country and Americana influences and is about to release her second album ‘Creamy Blue’ on October 25th 2019.  After making her major breakthrough in 2018 with a series of critically acclaimed singles she went on to release her #1 charting and Swedish Grammy winning album ‘Love In the Milky Way’ later that same year.

Whilst working as a waitress in her father’s bar she made the decision to turn her hand to writing her own songs, using her love and the long history of classic love songs as her starting point.  This resulted in her writing the kind of songs that have charmed Scandinavian and European audiences alike. With her heart meltingly beautiful yet grandiose voice she manages to create the illusion that she’s simultaneously pouring her bleeding heart into the mic whilst trying to claw her way out of the depths of her longing for lost love, leaving the audience wondering about the heartache that lay behind it. With a batch of self-penned songs that showcased a dreamy melancholy she set about playing in a number of underground venues in Gothenburg. From the stage she created an almost vintage soundscape preaching to the audience that although she may have been devastated by the longing for the love of another optimism for the future always wins through.

Following the release of debut album Love In The Milky Way’ Sarah embarked on a sell out tour of Scandinavia which included three straight sold out nights at Stockholm’s Södra Teatern and a triumphant hometown return at the Gothenburg Concert Hall.  A short European tour followed and at the start of 2019 Sarah and her band accompanied First Aid Kit on their arena tour. During the tour she showcased new material from her upcoming album, culminating in her performing her biggest headline show to date at Stockholm’s Gröna Lund in May.

October 25th 2019 is the release date for ‘Creamy Blue’, Sarah Klangs second album, once again written and produced in collaboration with Kevin Andersson.  In back up to the release Sarah and her band head back out on a European tour and who knows what awaits after that?

The group released their demo, Basic Pain Procedure in 1983, but it was two years until they met PWL producer Phil Harding, who produced their 1985 debut single "Isn't It Funny How Your Body Works?" and helped them set up their own label, Power Of Voice Communications. The band at the time was inspired by the post-punk scene and specifically acts like "Siouxsie and the Banshees, Killing Joke and Bauhaus who were having a big influence on us, in some ways stylistically but also in the energy that they gave".

They released three more singles on their own label, "Warsaw Ghetto" (1985), "Warsaw Ghetto Remixes" (1986) and "Let Your Body Learn" (1986), before signing to Mute Records in 1986. The singles "Murderous" (1986) and "Let Your Body Learn" (1987) followed, building their reputation in the Industrial Rock, Electronic Body Music and Hard Beat scenes, as well as making inroads into the developing Chicago House scene.

"Join In The Chant" (1987) became part of the Balearic beat scene that influenced the UK acid house scene.

With Turn Out The Lights, the now 21-year-old Baker returns to a much bigger stage, but with the same core of breathtaking vulnerability and resilience. From its opening moments —when herchiming, evocative melody is accompanied by swells of strings —Turn Out The Lights throws open the doors to the world without sacrificing the intimacy that has become a hallmark of her songs. The album explores how people live and come to terms with their internal conflict, and the alternately shattering and redemptive ways these struggles playout in relationships. Baker casts an unflinching and accepting eye on the duality of –and contradictions in –the human experience, at times evenfinding humor and joy in the midst of suffering. She ultimately calls on herlisteners to move beyond “good” and “bad,” or “happy” and “sad,” to embrace more complex truths.

The album was recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in her hometown of Memphis, TN, and mixed by Craig Silvey (The National, Florence & the Machine, Arcade Fire). This evolution fromSprained Ankle’sintentionally spareproduction allowed greater scope and freedom for Baker,who is still the album’s sole writer and producer. Strings and woodwinds now shade the corners of her compositions, and Baker takes topiano rather than guitar on several tracks. In songs like the epic “Claws In Your Back,” these new textures push Baker’s work to cinematic heights of intensity.

When you think of all things Pink, a sound that fuses the likings of Basement Jaxx, the Gorillaz, CSS, and Tom Tom Club, with lyrics focused on “women empowerment” and re-defining the definition of “kawaii” or cute in Japanese, you think of CHAI.

Formed in 2012, in the Nagoya region of Japan, identical twins Mana (voc/keys) and Kana (gt./cho.) would ask fellow high school classmate, Yuna (dr./cho.), and later Yuki (ba./cho.), a college acquaintance, to join what we now know as CHAI. Both independent releases, “Hottaraka Series” which translates to “irresponsible series”, was the title of CHAI’s 1st EP released in December of 2016, soon followed by “Homegoro Series”, their 2nd EP, released in April of the following year.

RADICAL FACE

"Hello, Hope, it's been a while," go the opening lines of "Dead Ends", the centerpiece of Ben Cooper's latest EP as Radical Face. Over the eight years he put into the three-part The Family Tree series -- The Roots (2011), The Branches (2013), and The Leaves (2016) -- he'd grasped onto ideas and perceptions that left him hopelessly drained, creatively and emotionally. Speaking with a professional finally enabled him to let go, something he's honored by naming his new effort Therapy.

With The Family Tree, Cooper sought  to confront his difficult upbringing in Florida by forming a fictional genealogy paired with stirring folk arrangements. Intense family drama near the end of the process pushed The Leaves to take on a far more personal tone, as Cooper felt "dishonest… putting it into a separate avatar." "Hello, Hope, it's been a while," go the opening lines of "Dead Ends", the centerpiece of Ben Cooper's latest EP as Radical Face. Over the eight years he put into the three-part The Family Tree series -- The Roots (2011), The Branches (2013), and The Leaves (2016) -- he'd grasped onto ideas and perceptions that left him hopelessly drained, creatively and emotionally. Speaking with a professional finally enabled him to let go, something he's honored by naming his new effort Therapy.

With The Family Tree, Cooper sought  to confront his difficult upbringing in Florida by forming a fictional genealogy paired with stirring folk arrangements. Intense family drama near the end of the process pushed The Leaves to take on a far more personal tone, as Cooper felt "dishonest… putting it into a separate avatar." Miss June is what happens when angst matures. Raised in the embers of punk rock, Miss June harness jagged, noisy guitars filtered through the unrivalled stage presence of frontperson Annabel Liddell, unafraid, unapologetic and ready to wake up the music scene.

Described as “some unholy union between Sonic Youth and Le Tigre” the NZ four piece, completed by the music school alumni recruited by Liddell – guitarist Jun Park, bass player Chris Marshall and drummer Tom Leggett – has built a reputation for fierce, formidable and head-spinning live shows.

Birthed out of the boredom of rural village life in Buckinghamshire, Haze now reside in Bristol and make urgent, dissonant music, described as a ‘special brand of ramshackle post-punk that’s raucous and dripping with irony’ by So Young Magazine.

Earlier this month Haze released ‘Piochitas’, the follow up to the critically acclaimed 2018 single ‘St John’. It’s a heavy, bass-driven track with acerbic lyrics inspired by Trotsky and his time in Mexico with Frida Kahlo; another step forward from this uncompromising and socially-concious Bristol-based four-piece. The band have set themselves up to have a breakthrough year in 2019 having already played a capacity show at DIY’s ‘Hello 2019’ showcase and with tour dates and a performance at The Great Escape ahead.

THE CARESS

The Caress are an alternative five-piece based in South East London, creating their own brand of melodrama, inspired by Scott Walker and Phil Spector’s wall of sound. Having worked with Eddie Al-Shakarchi (Boy Azooga ‘1,2, Kung Fu’) on a new collection of tracks, they released ‘Bruiser’ in January with support from 6 Music and BBC Introducing. Their latest offering, 'Oh God (I'm Lonesome)', was self-released in March.

Though Charly Bliss has been a band for over half a decade, the path that led to their first full-length record, Guppy, has been anything but straightforward. As the story goes, the band officially started when frontwoman Eva Hendricks and guitarist Spencer Fox, both just 15, crossed paths at a Tokyo Police Club show in New York City, but the ties within the band go much deeper than that. “It’s kind of insane and hilarious,” says Eva, “Sam is my older brother, so obviously we’ve known each other our whole lives, but all of us have been connected to each other since we were little kids. Dan Shure and I dated when we were in our early teens and he and Spencer went to summer camp together. Dan and I broke up years ago, but eventually he’d become our bass player. The reason we all get along so well has to do with the fact we share this ridiculous history. We are all deeply embedded in each other’s lives.”

The ten tracks that make up Guppy, Charly Bliss’ sparkling full-length debut, show the band embracing all of their strengths—a combination of ripping guitars and irrepressible pop hooks, all delivered with the hyper-enthusiasm of a middle school cafeteria food fight. That every track is loaded front-to-back with sing/shout-worthy lyrics and earworm melodies is a testament to the band’s commitment to the art form of pop songwriting.

Evangelical hawkers of DNA-rearranging post-punk exotica Melt Yourself Down play an intimate show at The Lexington this summer!

MADMADMAD

MADMADMAD began with the release of their bonkers jam “Mouse Rock/La Cigale”, a 7” single. The three French musicians first met in a studio in Tottenham (North London), and started jamming and recording several tracks filled with excitable rhythm.

Following their sold out, self-released white label EP ‘PAX’ in September 2017, and radio plays by the likes of Erol Alkan and Gilles Peterson, they’ve recently signed to in uential publisher J.I.M./Ninja Tune and released their first full length album in 2019.

MADMADMAD is a DIY studio album blending cold disco, early 2000’s electro, Krautrock and New York Noise using a combination of live and electronic instruments. Their live party set is utterly mad, loopy, and alien and after a storming live show at the Transmusicales in front of 3,000 people, they’re now hitting the road.

Crumb is the collaboration of Brooklyn-based musicians Lila Ramani (guitar, vocals), Brian Aronow (synth, keys, sax), Jesse Brotter (bass), and Jonathan Gilad (drums). The friends came together in 2016 with the goal of developing and recording a collection of songs Ramani had written in high school and college, the work ultimately resulting in the band’s first two EPs, 2016’s “Crumb” and 2017’s “Locket.” Encouraged by the warm reception online and at shows, the band evolved into a full time touring and recording project.In June 2019, Crumb will release Jinx, their first full-length album and best distillation to date of their singular blend of psych-rock and jazz. On Jinx, Ramani continues to helm the songwriting, with Aronow, Brotter, and Gilad each bringing distinctive ideas to match her ethereal, intimate vocals and luminous guitar lines. Informed by two years of nearly non-stop touring, the songs sweep and swell to capture the beguiling live spirit of Crumb shows, while taking listeners one step furtherdown the band’s dizzying, hypnotic path.

William Tyler’s new record, Goes West, is the best music that he’s ever made. I’m sure of this because I know and love all of his music intimately, and this album moves me the most, and the most consistently. The first time I heard it was in the late spring in the Texas Hill Country, rolling between limestone and scrub. I was on a cleanse then—no alcohol, no drugs, no evil thoughts—and was astonished at the emotional clarity that the album held. It offered up a model for what I wanted my head to feel like. Goes West marks a sort of narrowing of focus for William’s music; it sounds as though he found a way to point himself directly towards the rich and bittersweet emotional center of his music without being distracted by side trips. Perhaps this is down to the fact that William only plays acoustic guitar on the album, a clear and conscious decision considering that he is one of Nashville’s great electric guitarists. The band that performs Goes West alongside William—including guitarists Meg Duffy and Bill Frisell, bassist and producer Brad Cook, keyboardist James Wallace, drummer Griffin Goldsmith, and engineer Tucker Martine—is the best and most sympathetic group of players that William could have assembled to play these songs.

THE MYSTERY LIGHTS

The Mystery Lights story begins in 2004 in the small town of Salinas California when friends Michael Brandon and Luis Alfonso – whose shared fondness for groups like The Mc5, Velvet Underground, Dead Moon, and The Fall (just to name a few) – decided to join forces and craft their own brand of unhinged rock and roll. From there they spent the better part of 10 years touring relentlessly before migrating to Queens New York in 2014.
With a live show known for its raw, visceral energy and relentless assault – leaving little to no stoppage between songs – they barreled through countless NYC haunts and DIY venues, quickly amassing a fervent local following. The buzz soon caught the attention of Daptone Records execs who were in the beginning stages of launching a new rock-centric imprint, Wick Records.

Impressed by the groups’ musicianship, groove, endless supply of energy, and understanding of musical history the Mystery Lights were quickly signed to Wick. Though a rock band at heart, the parallels to what Daptone Records had traditionally looked for in their Soul artists was undeniable. Soon sessions were booked with Producer/Engineer Wayne Gordon, and the release of their debut single “Too Many Girls” b/w “Too Tough to Bear” launched to mass critical fanfare.

Upon the release of their self-titled full-length on June 24th 2016 The Mystery Lights were quickly crowned “one of New York’s finest garage rock bands” by NME. Extensive touring, including multiple stops in Europe, Asia and Australia followed which found the group graduating from support slots at hole-in-the-wall clubs to headlining stages at major festivals worldwide.

After two years of break-neck, non-stop touring, the group settled back into Queens to prepare for their second full- length record, “ Too Much Tension” (out May 2019). With Wayne Gordon in the producer’s chair and several intense writing sessions under their belt the group were back at Daptone’s House of Soul and ready to track. While keeping the hard-hitting approach of the first LP, “TMT” finds the group digging deeper into their well of eclectic influences, enriching their sound while echoing the past. Mixing the eerie, insistent synth sounds of groups like The Normal and Suicide, the energy and swagger of punk’s golden age, the pop sensibility of The Kinks, and the stark, deliberate execution of Television – The Mystery Lights are taking their idiosyncratic brand of rock and roll to dizzying new heights.

After announcing their first public concerts in over 5 years, Chromatics is set to take the stage all over Europe. Onstage, the group will be playing their favorite moments from Night Drive, Kill For Love, Cherry, & Dear Tommy. Out of the greyer climes of Oslo— particularly East Oslo with its drizzly expanse of apartment blocks and gas stations stocked with Kent cigs and smut mags— has suddenly come a burst of color by the name of Das Body. Ellie, Kim, Patrik, Didrik— all four were born and bred in Norway and have become fast friends making music that is listenably and undeniably pop, though just a little iffier— pop that feels like a newly-thrifted favorite T-shirt: comfortably worn, slightly sunfaded, and with a cigarette burn on its sleeve. Das Body is writing pop music without the sentimentality that oversweetens so much currently on radio rotation. Instead, to their vulnerability, they mix in a little vulgarity, or a little light-heartedness. After a few years deep in the studio, they have now emerged with already plenty of buzz from local fests and press, and their debut EP released in September 2018 on Luminelle Recordings. Das Body brings a uniquely Nordic odd-pop that is, nonetheless, destined for charts the world over.

TIBERIUS B

Tiberius b is the solo moniker of Francesca Belcourt, a Canadian singer/songwriter and producer based in their birthplace, London England. Tiberius b chronicles the intimate and gruesome experiences of navigating the modern world with heightened sensitivity, atop a playful musical foundation. Under their own name, Belcourt has shared the stage with artists like Jenny Hval and TOPS, toured throughout North America as one half of the dream pop duo Mu, and collaborated with artists Cecile Believe and Project Pablo.

INKA UPENDO

From Helsinki, now living in Falmouth, Inka Upendo is a musician and producer who crafts unique soundscapes of intertwined percussion, ethereal vocals, found sounds and synthesizers.

Her first track - Limbo, was released last year, and almost immediately found support on BBC Introducing in Devon & Cornwall. Since then her music has been spreading throughout Finland and the UK. Also a member of Eel, a record label and collective based in Cornwall founded by Hockeysmith, Inka released Mellow as part of the collective's debut compilation earlier this year.

As of April, Inka has signed with new music company archForm, and will be releasing a debut EP in September. The songs revolve around the contrasts in her production style, whilst exploring themes such as the feeling of inadequacy, the absurdity of love and the ubiquity of capitalism.

Peggy Sue are London-via-Brighton indie duo Rosa Slade and Katy Young. Founded in 2007, the band have released three albums on Wichita Recordings, culminating in 2014's critically acclaimed 'Choir Of Echoes', and toured with the likes of Jack White, Local Natives and First Aid Kit.

'Slow Fade' is the first single from Peggy Sue's upcoming fourth album. After a three year break - during which Rosa Slade and Katy Young have been performing with all-female singing group Deep Throat Choir - 'Slow Fade' is an apt comeback; a melancholy celebration of patience. It is a dreamy breakup song, one that let's you hang around lazily in the days when you aren't ok yet.

The single - and upcoming album- borrow in equal parts from the perfectly-constructed pop songs of the 1960s and   the understated, noisey guitar experiments of 90s indie bands such as The Breeders and Blur. The new material sees front-women Slade and Young joined by Dan Blackett (Landshapes) on drums and Benjamin Gregory (GRIP TIGHT) on bass who bring a fresh energy and clarity to the band's enduringly captivating duel vocals.

Raised on a Peabody Estate in Waterloo, Bower was more interested in football and friends in his younger years until he stumbled across his calling. “I used to have a piano at my grandparents that I’d fiddle about with as a really young kid,” he remembers, “but it wasn’t until I was like 14 that I started to give it a proper go.” Tinkering away during music lessons at school, reworking indie classics into piano-led versions, he quickly caught onto the freeform creativity that music afforded him.

Moving from piano to acoustic guitar, Luke began self-teaching his way around structure and form. A last-minute call from the prestigious Brit School, just five weeks before term was due to start, took that ambition further still. “I’d forgotten all about the Brit School!” he admits, “but they called up like, ‘Someone’s dropped out, do you wanna step in?”. Naturally, Luke seized the opportunity, where he was able to cut his teeth and learn the play bass and get to grips with electronic production elements, paving the way for his future sound.

Early bands saw him playing shows at South London hotspots like the Amersham Arms and Off The Cuff, alongside everyone from punk groups like Shame and HMLTD to new wave jazz pioneers like Moses Boyd and Poppy Ajudha.

From there, Luke became embedded in that scene. A frequent face – both on-stage and in the crowd – at shows in South London’s low-key jazz joints Steez and Brainchild, he caught early, embryonic versions of “so many of the bands that are killing it now.” He began inviting them into practise rooms and shared spaces, collaborating on whatever sounds came forth. “It was really chaotic,” he laughs, “but great for knowing how to work with other musicians – how to be tested. You’d have to bring your A-game.”. Cut to 2017 and Luke was playing lead guitar in Puma Blue and bass with Nilufer Yanya as part of their world-touring live bands.

Now, Luke is breaking out of his comfort zone. Turning down world tours and setting aside three months at the start of 2019 to go into the studio, the result is a more focused vision from the musical polymath. New singles ‘Crucial’ and ‘Adonis’ are lushly arranged cuts of future-facing, jazzy pop production. Building on the steady foundation of last summer’s ‘Vol. 1’ EP, it’s evidence that Luke’s years of digesting the scenes and sounds around him has led to something special. “With this next EP, it’s less about what I have to say, and more what I want to say. The different sounds and vibes on it are exactly what I want to be making. It’s a really nice feeling.”

MAYA LAW

Maya Law is a fiery 19 year old singer songwriter with a big voice. She’s gained support from BBC Radio 1xtra, Radio 1, Amazing Radio and Radio 2 alongside love  from The Tipping Point, Record of the Day, Somewhere Soul, The Line of Best Fit and Earmilk among many others. She is one of Huw Stephens Tips for 2019 and is being championed nationally by her local BBC Introducing team. Law’s live set currently consists of two parts, in which she uses her vocals and acoustic guitar before moving into her unique gritty version of neo-soul style using an old ghetto blaster and mpc.

A club night exhibiting YEAR0001's identity and intent as Sweden’s prime independent music company - live performances by album debutant Nadia Tehran, Merely and Ecco2K + SOUNDS playlist curator and DJ Femi (More names TBA).

NADIA TEHRAN

Born in Jönköping, Sweden to immigrant Iranian parents, Tehran is a rebel by blood. Her father served on the frontline of the Iran-Iraq War. His stories of the revolution inform Tehran’s art and anarchist spirit. As a child Tehran started performing as her own form of rebellion. By 12 years old, she was singing in the only punk band in her small Christian town. Tehran continued to gain notoriety within the underground Swedish scene, securing a place for herself as a solo artist on indie label YEAR0001 (Yung Lean, V**gra Boys). Her 2016 EP Life Is Cheap, Death Is Free released to critical acclaim, with i-D Magazine calling it a “powerful statement on race and immigration.” Tehran has performed around the world at legendary Berlin nightclub Berghain, Sonar Festival, Chicago, New York and more. Dozakh: All Lovers Hell (Releasing on May 16th) is Tehran’s first studio album.

MERELY

In ancient stories, fairy tales and mythology, different tropes are often used to symbolise the powers found within all of us; for example, The King and Queen represents internal struggle and justice, and The Warrior represents courage and willpower. On the other hand, The Wizard is more ambiguous and represents the esoteric sides of the human psyche - insight, spiritual growth, a kind of messenger between worlds.

If Merely’s first two albums “Nirvana” and “Uncanny Valley” were her manifestations of The Warrior and The Queen, “Hatching The Egg” is The Wizard - a new incarnation, imagining her as the lead singer in a super group composed of the best renderings of her past self, all disguised as fable animals and creatures from the other side; an album painted with a palette of psychedelic, dreamy pop, shoegaze, chamber music and subtle hints of progressive rock.


FEMI

Femi is a DJ and visual artist from Stockholm, where she’s been organising and hosting countless clubs and events over the past couple of years and is currently working with playlist curation and talent scouting at Swedish record label YEAR0001.Her sets are distinguished by fusing esoteric club sounds from various eras into a melodic blend of blissful electronic euphoria.

ECCO2K

Vogue has described him as a “Stylish Multi-Hyphenate” coming from a background in film and image-making who is now gaining attention in music as a songwriter and vocalist. While his fans obsess and theorise online over his unpredictable releases and overall lack of public transparency, Drain Gang member Zak Arogundade has quietly established himself as a curator and creator of an ever-evolving style of audiovisual expression amplified by the highly vibrant yet unclassifiable nature of his persona who’s influence extends into a variety of creative fields.

Since leaving his day job as a footwear designer in 2018 he has been alternating between work on his own label g’LOSS, directing and editing visuals for artists like Bladee and Yves Tumor, and attending London and Paris fashion weeks as both runway model and jury member, while hard at work developing the next phase of his musical output under his stage name ECCO2K with studio sessions in Stockholm, Berlin, and Los Angeles.

On December 23. 1999, roughly a week before the whole world was destroyed by the Y2K problem, Icelandic electronic band múm released Yesterday was Dramatic Today is OK.

On the evening of that day the band stood outside of a shop on the main street of Reykjavík selling the album to rushing christmas shoppers. But it wasn’t until later, when the album got its second release in 2000 and then the subsequent international release in 2001, that the albums ripples began to be felt.

“Sublime and gorgeous” Pitchfork said in their review, calling it “one of the most deeply, purely emotionally affecting albums of the year.” The Guardian called it "passionate and gorged with special talent“ in their 5/5 review. In 2005 the album was performed live in its entirety at the Barbican in London as part of the ATP curated Don’t Look Back series.

This year sees the 20 year anniversary of this innovative and influential album, with a special vinyl release and a short tour to celebrate.

The music Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad release as Girlpool occupies a transient space. Their constant evolution makes it perfectly impossible to articulate exactly where their project falls within the contemporary musical canon; this is one of the many reasons Girlpool’s music is so captivating.

Never before has a group’s maturation been so transparently attached to the maturation of its members. This is due in large part to the fact that Girlpool came into existence exactly when Girlpool was supposed to come into existence: at the most prolific stage of the digital revolution. Both online and in the flesh, Tividad and Tucker practice radical openness to the point where it may even engender discomfort; this is exactly the point where it becomes clear why theirs’ is such a special project: they accept the possibility of discomfort—Chaos—and show you how to figure out why you might feel it. This is achieved through their ability to empathize as best friends and partners in creation, with the intention of making music that provokes.

They met in November of 2013, and released their self-titled EP just 3 months later. Both were playing in multiple bands at the time. Harmony was 18. Cleo was 17.

The growth they have fostered in one another over the years explains the project’s disparate discography; each record is a photograph of Girlpool, growing over time. Their roots are a certain shade of punk—organized chaos dressed as earworms. “Where You Sink,” one of the first singles off their upcoming record, What Chaos Is Imaginary, gives you an idea of how much things have changed since 2014.

As VISIONS approaches its seventh edition, the Hackney one-dayer has progressively grown each year, adding new venues, spaces and outdoor spots, whilst maintaining a carefully curated and individual approach that has become a firm fixture in the diary for many in the Capital and beyond. Previous consistently sold out years have seen special performances from an internationally acclaimed range of artists including SOPHIE, Young Fathers, The Fat White Family, Idles, Loyle Carner, !!!, Mykki Blanco, Blanck Mass, Jenny Hval, Shame, Holy F*ck, Public Service Broadcasting, Jens Lekman, Poliça, Camera Obscura, ESG, Perfume Genius, The Antlers, Anna Calvi, Lightning Bolt, Andrew WK, Micachu, to name just a few.

VISIONS 2019 is delighted to have White Denim topping the bill – the Texan-rockers released their critically lauded new album this month, and following their headline show at the Roundhouse earlier this year, they’ll return to the UK to play a special set in an intimate setting in order to deliver their consistently excellent live show. Virtuoso talent Anna Meredith is also set to appear, bringing her unique blend of alternative orchestral-pop to the event.

Elsewhere, cult rockers and BBC 6 Music favorites Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs make Visions their exclusive London summer play, following a many months in advance sold-out Scala. Deptford’s Jazz collective Steam Down have been making a splash from nu-jazz blogs to New Yorker full page features, and will touch down in Hackney following a sold out Village Underground show. Dark ambient electronica duo Demdike Stare also make a rare appearance as part of the bill.

VISIONS is thrilled to host some of the best artists from around the world, including Danish punk-rock quartet Iceage who’ll perform songs from their recently released ‘Beyondless’ . From slightly further afield we are delighted to welcome Tuareg desert rock band Imarhan from Algeria. Canadian masked alt-country sensation Orville Peck and Russia’s electronica underground star Kedr kedr Livanskiy will also perform. Joining us from across the channel is Irish lo-fi producer Maria Somerville.

VISIONS will also feature some of the best new local talent on the bill. Hotly tipped UK acts and next big things Squid, Westerman and Black Country, New Road bring their impeccable live performances to the festival, alongside former jazz award winner turned nu-pop star in making Nardeydey. Exciting newcomers Shygirl, Rina Mushonga and otta will complete the first announcement bill

And, of course, the now-infamous VISIONS Dog Show will once again return in 2019 - further details to follow.

Gifted with a unique ability to fuse musical genres and influences to craft songs that feel fresh and wholly her own, with her new album Putting On Airs (2018, Single Lock Records), Erin Rae has thrown down a direct challenge to the stereotype of what a Southern singer should be. Both lyrically and sonically, she strikes a fiercely independent chord, proudly releasing a deeply personal record that reflects her own upbringing in Tennessee, including the prejudices and injustices that she witnessed as a child that continue to impact her life to this day. According to Rae, "this album was born out of a need to do some healing work in my personal life, in order to address some fears and patterns of mine to allow my true feelings to come to the surface."

Recorded in the dead of winter in an old Franciscan monastery on Wisconsin’s Fox River, the isolated environment created the perfect setting for Rae and her bandmates to track these genre-busting songs, using the chapel and other unique spaces within the cavernous building to explore new sonic boundaries, all while continuing to showcase the hypnotic vocals and song-serving restraint that have become her trademark.

Hilang Child is the moniker of Ed Riman, a half-Welsh, half-Indonesian musician & songwriter from London. With a few exquisite tracks appearing quietly over the last year or so and praised highly by the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Clash Magazine, Hilang Child has also recently collaborated with Lost Horizons (the new project from ex-Cocteau Twin Simon Raymonde and ex-Dif Juz drummer Richie Thomas), co-writing two songs and joining their live ensemble for upcoming tour dates. Crafting expansive atmospheres in his multi-layered songs and with a debut album entitled Years on Bella Union, Hilang Child is one of our favourite artists on the legendary label.

Leytonstone-born Murkage Dave has found himself at a unique crossroads between musical styles and practices. Obsessed with music, he moved to Manchester under the guise of university, but quickly dropped out and started pursuing whatever he could to anchor his life around his passion, cutting cult garage records and promoting legendary parties.

His debut album ‘Murkage Dave Changed My Life’ sees him returning home to East London, witnessing the changing landscape and gentrification, and inspiring him to write a set of twelve “folk songs for the culture”. These include existing singles ‘Put You On My Shoulders’, ‘You Always Ring Me When I’m Busy’ and ‘Magic Mission Deja Rinse’, as well as instant fan favourites ‘Keep Up The Bad Work’ and ‘Niggas Need Each Other’.

Written and recorded this year between London, Paris and Berlin, Dave spent the Summer with the sole aim of crafting a timeless LP, holing up in the studio with executive producer Cores and a cast of talented friends including Manga Saint Hilare, Star Slinger, Massappeals, Louis Don Dada, Sam Wise and Scally, all of whom contributed to the impressive collection.

As a singer and songwriter, Dave has crafted a versatile sound, rooted in a youth spent listening to garage and R&B, but also revealing formative years absorbing The Smiths and Joy Division. It’s no surprise that his defiantly British sound is still attracting fans globally, and he’s collaborated with Mike Skinner, Jaykae, Skepta and French producer Hologram Lo, as well as reaching the ears of Pharrell Williams, Young Fathers, Iggy Pop and Beastie Boys member Mike D, all of which have supported the track on their radio shows.

PUMA BLUE

Puma Blue is the alias of singer/songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Allen, based in London, UK.

Producing the music himself in his bedroom, Jacob has been recognised for his emotive falsetto, gritty lo-fi sound, particular visual aesthetic, as well as R&B, jazz and hip hop influences.
He first gained a following from his 2014 SoundCloud demo 'Only Trying 2 Tell U' and slowly cultivated a cult following from live shows around London & on the internet. His debut EP ‘Swum Baby’ was independently released in June 2017, shortly followed by two stand-alone singles, a re-recorded cut of 'Only Trying 2 Tell U' & live favourite 'Moon Undah Water'. His second EP ‘Blood Loss’ was released in November 2018, a more ambitious, circular body of work consisting of 8 tracks that blend into eachother.

The last year has seen his first shows, sold out, in Japan and South Korea, as well as his first US/Canadian tour.

Live he most often performs with his band, blending watery textures with soulful J Dilla influenced grooves and a vocal likened to Jeff Buckley and Chet Baker. Originally growing from the south-east London music scene, Jacob has frequently collaborated with friends and peers, including Lucy Lu, Biig Piig & Lava La Rue and honed his sound between intimate live shows and late-night producing sessions at home.

He has cited D'Angelo, Radiohead & John Frusciante among his biggest influences.

CHARTREUSE

Chartreuse are a four piece band from Birmingham, England.

Their sound can be described as ambient dark-pop, at the same time keeping the classic sounds of folk, soul and jazz genres that influence them.

Chartreuse's founding members were Michael Wagstaff and Harriet Wilson. They started out writing folk music together in 2013. They then expanded to a four piece in the summer of 2014, with the addition of their rhythm section:  Bass and Keyboard player Perry Lovering and finally drummer Rory Wagstaff .

The four musicians have a very close friendship, Rory and Michael are brothers, Harriet and Perry are childhood friends that over the years have crossed paths in previous musical projects. Chartreuse had their first show as a band in October 2014 and since then have been invited on support tours and played shows with Matt Corby, Lucy Rose and Drenge.

There is a bright future for Chartreuse as they begin their musical journey and win over fans around the world.

WOOZE

Formed in late 2017 out of the Brixton-based Muddy Yard Collective, WOOZE is the Korean / British duo of Theo Spark and Jamie She.

WETTER

Wetter is a four-member rock band consisting of vocals (Choi Won Bin), guitar (Chae Ji Ho), bass (Jung Hoon) and drum (HJ Jin) that literally aims to make people wetter by working them into a sweaty mess with their high octane rock n roll live show.

The band released their debut single [Who] in November 2016 and immediately captured the attention of fans and critics alike. Since then the band have been incredibly active releasing their first EP [Romance In A Weird World], a string of singles and a follow up EP called [We’ve Lost, What Now?]. The band have been attracting attention, not only for their unique music and high energy shows but also for their artistic photos and music videos.

Following the success of their EPs and Singles the band appeared at many of Korea’s premier music festivals including, Jisan Valley Rock Festival, Grand Mint Festival and Pentaport Rock Festival.

Giampaolo Speziale and Federica Caiozzo met in early 2015 in Rome and, in what Federica describes as a "moment of surrender", decided to start making music together on a road trip through Austria, Germany and Poland. The duo gathered thirty improvised musical ideas and spent eight days recording with their friend and drummer Alberto Paone in a Roman studio.

Since their formation, Diamond Thug have continually evolved, always striving to create a unique sound that’s stay true to their perspective. Their music glides through dream-pop, skittish, off-kilter electronica & psychedelic-rock, creating cosmic-influenced ethereal soundscapes, which swirl below Chantel’s haunting, yet beautiful melodies. The pursuit of an authentic & honest sound has earned the band various honours in international competitions such as Culture Collide’s pick to perform at #SXSW2017, as well as Converse’s Music Global Takeover and the attention of Grammy Award winner Darryl Torr, who had this to say about the band: "When listening to Diamond Thug, you are taken on a journey. ComposHER is a new concert celebrating the best new music to moving picture, featuring a stunning roster of some of the best women composers writing for the screen today. The aim of the concert is not only to showcase this incredible talent in the UK, of composers scoring film, TV and more, but also to inspire the next generation of women composers and to seek to make this area of the industry as inclusive as possible for future generations.

With composition being one of the most unequal areas of the global music industry, much work to tackle this has already taken place: 2018 saw the launch of the UK Women Composers’ Forum, as well as a new global database of women composers writing for visual media on FreeTheBid.com. This concert seeks to continue to support and empower the UK women composers’ community, towards further progression and change in 2019.

Many of the performances will be introduced or accompanied by the composers, with the 2 hour concert separated into two halves of music performed from all areas of visual media, to encompass the diverse nature of the British industry, showcasing works for film, TV, theatre and video games. The musical genres of the performances will also vary to feature classical composition, vocal performance alternative & electronic music and ensemble performances, played by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

The composers being showcased are: Carly Paradis, Jessica Jones (selected by the NFTS to represent their alumni), Anne Nikitin, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, Kate Simko, Jessica Curry, Jocelyn Pook, Nainita Desai, Imogen Heap (music performed by LCO and SHE Choir), Alev Lenz, Claire M Singer and Amelia Warner.

JESSICA CURRY
Jessica Curry is a BAFTA-winning composer of contemporary classical music. Her work has been performed in diverse and high-profile venues around the world from The Barbican to Sydney Opera House, The Royal Albert Hall to MOMI in New York. Jessica presents High Score on ClassicFM, a show dedicated to the best video game music.  Jessica is currently London Oriana Choir’s composer in residence and her innovative new piece ‘She Who’, commissioned by NYCGB, is one of 19 new works selected for PRSF’s 2019 New Music Biennial.

NAINITA DESAI
Nainita Desai is a BAFTA BREAKTHROUGH BRIT 2016-17 and a recent winner of the Music+Sound Award for Best Feature Film Score, a Women in Sync Awards 2016 Nominee, RTS Craft Award 2014 Nominee for Best Original Music and RTS Scotland Awards 2014.Working at the forefront of a new wave of emerging artists, Nainita recently scored two features; the BFI psychological horror Darkness Visible (Dir: Neil Biswas, co-creator of Sky 1 Lucky Man), and WW2 thriller Ni’ihau, filmed at Pinewood Malaysia. Her latest projects are the features 5 Years in Love And War (C4) by Emmy award winner Ed Watts, Untamed Romania, the most successful non-fiction film ever released in Romania that world premiered at Transylvania Film Festival 2018, The Life After (BBC / Irish Film Board) world premiering at Galway Intl Film Festival 2018, dramas Anemone (BBC Film | Film London), Exit Eve, exec prod: Camille Gatin (The Girl With All the Gifts), and Interactive movie / video game Telling Lies for Annapurna Interactive (Phantom Thread, Zero Dark Thirty) and multi-Bafta winning director Sam Barlow.Also known for her work on dramas including Emmy winner Maxwell (BBC) and the factual drama To Kidnap A Princess (ITV), recent projects include The Confessions of Thomas Quick (BFI/Film4), Bafta 2018 Nominees Raped: My Story and Catching A Killer(C4), landmark series Extraordinary Rituals and Earth’s Natural Wonders for the BBC NHU and the prestigious BBC Royal Wedding Meghan and Harry title theme.

JESSICA JONES
Jessica is a London based composer for film and television. She studied violin and composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, during which time she won a BAFTA New Talent award, before going on to the National Film and Television School. She recently scored ‘Joanna Lumley's Silk Road Adventure' and BBCs 'Abused by my Girlfriend’ as well as Royal Television Society nominated ‘The Ruth Ellis Files’. As part of the scoring team she has worked on studio features such as ‘Darkest Hour’, ‘Paddington 2’ and ‘Bumblebee’. Jessica performs with Tim Morrish as part of the duo Vanbur and as a vocalist has also featured on various scores including 'The Good Karma Hospital', 'Thunderbirds are Go' and 'The A List'. In 2016 she co-founded AUDIUM POST, an award winning sound and music post production company who’s clients include Reebok, Mercedes, Bose, BMW, Barbour and New Look amongst others.

IMOGEN HEAP

Imogen Heap is an English singer, songwriter, record producer and audio engineer. Born in the London Borough of Havering, Heap became classically trained in piano, cello and clarinet at a young age. She began writing songs at the age of 13 and, while attending boarding school, taught herself both guitar and drums, as well as music production on Atari computers.

Alev Lenz is a remarkable singer, songwriter and composer whose music fuses filmic, world and classical influences into her unique brand of sophisticated pop music.
Those who have listened to Alev before will recognise her bittersweet voice and utterly personal lyrics, loaded with melodic flavours and inspiring hooks that take you by surprise, and deep and compelling song structures, stemming from a diverse set of influences in her music, from European classical to experimental electronics. Since the release of her debut album "Storytelling Piano Playing Fräulein" back in 2009, in her home country of Germany, Alev has kept herself busy with gigs in London, New York and across Germany and Turkey, as well as lending songs to and composing for several high profile German and Austrian films.
For her second studio album 'Two-Headed Girl', Alev enlisted the services of acclaimed Finnish drummer, Samuli Kosminen (Múm, Hauschka, Kronos Quartet), completed by the mixing skills of Jas Shaw (Simian Mobile Disco). For her third album '3', Jas Shaw was once again her sonic partner and mixed what is not only Alev’s third album; it was also three years in the making. Three years in which Alev Lenz also sang and co-wrote the title track of Anoushka Shankar's Grammy-nominated album "Land of Gold", and wrote and sang her breakthrough track "Fall Into Me" from Netflix's "Black Mirror“.

EMILIE LEVIENAISE-FARROUCH
Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch is an award-winning French pianist/composer living in London. In 2006 Emilie moved from Bordeaux to carry out a BA in music at Westminster University, then a Master’s degree in composition at Goldsmiths with a primary focus on contemporary classical music. Spanning film score, bespoke composition and sound design, her work is connected both by its evocative and meticulous craft.
Emilie scored her first feature-length film in 2012: (American-Iranian director Caveh Zahedi’s ‘The Sheik and I’) and in 2018 scored Harry Wootliff’s debut feature ‘Only You’ which premiered in the BFI London Film Festival. Her CV also includes commissions for the V&A Museum (London), HBO short film ‘Love NY’, and for drama / documentaries on BBC Radio 4, The Guardian, Funny or Die. In 2013 she received the Emerging Excellence Award from the Musician Benevolent Fund, and in 2015 was commissioned to create a sound-walk for London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. She has also worked on multiple projects in collaboration with visual artists Danica Dakic, Alice May Williams and Natasha Caruana. She has created music for video installations exhibited at Jerwood Project Space, Speke Hall, The ODI, Arles Photo Festival; and also, for VR installations for HOUSE Biennal. As a live performer she has played Tallinn Music Week, Brighton Festival and the Union Chapel. In 2017, she was commissioned by The London Contemporary Orchestra to write a piece for small string ensemble and live electronics, which received a premiere during the 2017 BBC Proms at The Tanks at Tate Modern.
Emilie’s debut album, ‘Like Water Through the Sand’ was released on 130701 in November 2015, with her second album ‘Epoques’ following in Summer 2018.

ANNE NIKITIN
The Imposter, as scored by Anne Nikitin, won a BAFTA and was shortlisted for an Academy Award. Her bewitching compositions have also been attached to a wide range of international documentaries and short films.
After completing her master’s degree in composition for screen at The Royal College of Music, Anne Nikitin won the BBC’s 2006 New TV Composers Scheme, with the prize of scoring a BBC Natural World film, White Falcon White Wolf.

CARLY PARADIS
Royal Television Society nominated Carly Paradis (Canadian born) is a film and TV composer, songwriter and pianist, whose credits include sole composer of RTS winning and BAFTA nominated series Line of Duty for BBC, Netflix original The Innocents (2018) which she won a Hollywood Music in Media Award for original song, Sky Atlantic’s Sick Note (Rupert Grint, Nick Frost, Don Johnson) and PBS Masterpiece/ITV’s Prime Suspect 1973 (prequel to Prime Suspect). She wrote the original score for Jed Mercurio’s feature length BBC adaption of Lady Chatterly’s Lover, and her music has been used in trailers for True Detective, Homeland and Martin Scorsese’s Hugo.

JOCELYN POOK
Jocelyn Pook is one of the UK’s most versatile composers, having written extensively for stage, screen, opera house and concert hall. She has established an international reputation as a highly original composer winning her numerous awards and nominations including a Golden Globe, an Olivier and two British Composer Awards.
Often remembered for her film score to Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut (1999), which won her a Chicago Film Award and a Golden Globe nomination, Pook has worked with some of the world’s leading directors, musicians, artists and arts institutions – including Martin Scorsese, Sarah Gavron, Michael Radford, the Royal Opera House, BBC Proms, Andrew Motion, Peter Gabriel, Massive Attack and Laurie Anderson. 

KATE SIMKO
Kate Simko has carved an international career as an electronic music producer, film composer, live performer, and DJ. Hailing from Chicago, Kate’s music reflects the influences of the city’s underground sounds, as well her background in classical piano and film music.
Kate graduated from the Royal College of Music in London in 2014 with a Masters in Composition for Screen and received her Bachelors in Music Technology from Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, Kate began DJ’ing on WNUR, and oversaw the electronic music format at the station, and scored her first film. 
Upon graduation, Kate moved to Los Angeles where she worked with Academy Award winning sound designer Stephen Flick, gaining her first experience in feature films. She has released multiple albums and soundtracks, reaching the Top 100 in the Billboard Classical chart, as well as the Top 10 in house music charts worldwide. Her music has been licensed by ABC Television, Victorinox, and Giorgio Armani, and she has written original music for films, commercials, iPhone apps, and shows on the BBC, Netflix, and PBS.

CLAIRE M SINGER
Claire M Singer is a composer, producer and performer of acoustic and electronic music, film and installations. In recent years her work has focused on a mix of organ, cello and electronics and her debut album Solas was released on Touch in June 2016 followed by her second release Fairge in October 2017. Performances and commissions include Tate Modern London; Fylkingen Institute Stockholm; Ceremony Hall Austin, TX; Muziekgebouw Aan' t ij Amsterdam, Oude Kerk Amsterdam and the Barbican London.

AMELIA WARNER
Amelia Warner is a fresh—and refreshing—new voice in film music. In 2016, she provided a reflective, elegant score for her feature debut, Mum’s List, starring Rafe Spall. She helped bring an old story to modern life with Mary Shelley, starring Elle Fanning as the famous Frankenstein author, with otherworldly music for an orchestra haunted by ethereal female vocals. Most recently she took on a comedic tone, scoring a series of short films about female empowerment in the Time’s Up vein. Offscreen, Warner has scored hits with her narrative, neoclassical albums Arms (under the altar ego Slow Moving Millie) and Visitors, both of which conquered the classical charts on iTunes. Warner shapeshifted from acting in high-profile British TV and films to becoming a composer—but even before her life on camera (in projects like Lorna Doone and Quills), her heart always beat for music. She played the piano from the time she was little, growing up in northwest England in a family of actors, and was telling stories with her music from the start. As an actor, she often composed on set between takes, and it was only a matter of time before she turned her talents toward giving emotional soul to screen stories. After she scored a few commercials and a short film, Mum’s List director Niall Johnson heard her second EP and asked if he could use a piece in the film. Warner said yes, and added: “who’s scoring it?”

BRANDT BRAUER FRICK

When Brandt Brauer Frick burst onto the Berlin scene in 2009, reimagining propulsive techno by using acoustic instruments, the world of DJs performing with orchestras and pianists headlining festivals was light years away. Inspired by both the city’s classical history and its dank dancefloors, the trio’s bricolage beats owed as much to minimal masters Steve Reich and Philip Glass as they did the minimal techno of Ricardo Villalobos and the Perlon label. Their debut album You Make Me Real blended the highbrow music of concert halls with the euphoric abandon of club music and in doing so helped to pioneer the contemporary classical renaissance in pop music.

The three friends, Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer and Paul Frick, had no idea then that the intense style of music they made as a result of living and working on top of each other would take off in the way it has now, with artists like Nils Frahm headlining the Royal Albert Hall in London and Jon Hopkins being nominated prestigious awards like the Mercury Music Prize. “We couldn’t have imagined that the interest in classical instruments and especially piano would become so big,” says Frick. “I mean, we were dreaming of releasing on some cool underground label, so to see so many minimalistic piano artists doing well now, it’s exciting.”

Siblings Dominic and Fionnuala Kennedy grew up in Harlesden in North West London, where their parents had moved from the west coast of Ireland before they were born. However, they both spent a great deal of time back in their ancestral homeland growing up, taking in the countryside and absorbing its parallels to their bustling metropolis upbringing – something that’s undoubtedly seeped into their music.

‘uh’ is one of the most common sounds heard in the English language. An imitative that holds no linguistic meaning, it’s nevertheless a sound recognised by everyone; it could be a hesitation, an exclamation of distrust, a grunt of effort. For Dominic and Fionnuala it’s this ambiguity of the term that draws them to it.

Starcrawler are a truly original young band from the city of Los Angeles. Led by their nineteen year old frontwoman Arrow de Wilde, their take on dark and heavy rock & roll both recorded and through their chaotic live shows, brings such music into the 21st century as an almost transgressive form of pop.

Starcrawler are all LA natives and met in high school. Their self-titled LP was released one year ago in January by Rough Trade Records to rave reviews. Since then, they’ve toured non-stop all over the world, including triumphant sets at Primavera, Rock Am Ring, Download Festival, Voodoo Festival, Fuji Rock, Reading, Leeds and more. In March, they won the 2018 SXSW Grulke prize for best US act after blowing minds at each of their nine shows. They were VEVO DSCVR artists with video testimonial from Shirley Manson who said “I feel like Starcrawler, and in particular Arrow, are really challenging the norms in which women are seen in music.” The amount of support they have received from their fellow artists has been overwhelming. They opened shows for the Foo Fighters at Olympic Park in London, and toured with The Distillers and MC5.

When Plague Vendor were about make their new album By Night, singer Brandon Blaine didn’t exactly know what he wanted it to sound like, but he did know what he wanted it to look like. “A house that’s falling apart but lit up like crazy,” he says now, six months after finishing a record that captures that exact feeling of ruin and regeneration, of charisma and catastrophe and of slashing at the night with nothing but pure electricity. Where 2016’s BLOODSWEAT ended with a to-be-continued moment and Blaine shouting “Romance!” into the silence, By Night ends with a second of feedback and noise. It's a perfectly spent finish to an adrenaline rush of a record that asks, “What just happened?”

Plague Vendor are already used to making nothing into something. It’s a place where the only way things happen is if you make them happen. A fearless our-way-is-the-hard-way work ethic and famously physical live shows won the band a ferocious fan base, a flash-bang debut album and place of pride on the Epitaph Records roster. When they called that album BLOODSWEAT they might’ve just been explaining what it took to make it. (Or they could’ve just been talking about those live shows.) And when they stepped back into the studio in the late summer of 2018, they were ready again to do something new.

HOLLY HERNDON

Holly’s third full-length album PROTO (out 10 May) isn’t about A.I., but much of it was created in collaboration with her own A.I. ‘baby’, Spawn.

Holly is building a diverse and fluid ensemble, a hybrid of project studio and touring band, incorporating 14 vocalists, Spawn (a nascent machine intelligence), machine learning specialists, choreographers and visual artists. For the album, they have developed custom, and unprecedented AI processes for sound generation, vocal processing and visual manipulation - there is no claim here that an AI is writing the music, but instead they are translating the perspective of an AI. Over the course of the album campaign they will be continually prototyping new concepts for live performance, and releasing new works from the project studio.

PROTO makes reference to what Holly refers to as the protocol era, where rapidly surfacing ideological battles over the future of A.I. protocols, centralised and decentralised internet protocols, and personal and political protocols compel us to ask ourselves who are we, what are we, what do we stand for, and what are we heading towards?

CAGEWORK

Cagework started as a bedroom project in the South West of England and it slowly got out of hand. So out of hand, in fact, that it became a band.

Taking inspiration from odd, lo-fi indie, post-hardcore and early emo, with smatterings of avant-garde folk, the band drew these somewhat disparate influences together to create an equally juxtaposed sound; dissonant, atonal and yet somehow hook-driven.

Coming into Autumn, amidst growing global anxiety and fidgetiness of their own, a release began to take shape. The band recorded six tracks to a length of just under 15 minutes in their makeshift basement studio.

ALAN POWER

Alan Power is a UK based singer, songwriter, recording artist and comedian.

Like something out of Phoenix Nights, Power emerged from nowhere early last year following a series of much talked about live appearances.

Spending the latter half of 2018 making an Album and touring extensively, he sold out two London shows with no music online, and shared a stage with The Vaccines, Matt Maltese, Jack Ladder, Spector, Nick Allbrook and The International Teachers Of Pop among others.

His music is rooted in traditional country and folk with notable leanings towards the abstract / post punk and experimental. His live show has provoked attention for its unconventional nature and unpredictability.

His first offering, Prodigal Son, released in Jan 19 – tells the story of a man on the road to nowhere. Painting a picture of the apparent struggles between his own delusions of grandeur and crippling self doubt. “I am the life and soul of nothing at all”, he sings.

With an EP to follow in April and His irreverently titled, debut Album; Greatest Hits Vol. 1 – the mysterious Power looks like he might be one of the surprise breakthrough acts of 2019.

DakhaBrakha is music quartet from Kiev, Ukraine. Reflecting fundamental elements of sound and soul, Ukrainian “ethno chaos” band DakhaBrakha creates a world of unexpected new music.

DakhaBrakha was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art “DAKH” by the avant-garde theatre director – Vladyslav Troitskyi – and given the name that means “give/take” in the old Ukrainian language. Theatre work has left its mark on the band performances – their shows are always staged with a strong visual element.

After experimenting with Ukrainian folk music, the band has added rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating the bright, unique and unforgettable sound of DakhaBrakha. They strive to help open up the potential of Ukrainian melodies and to bring it to the hearts and consciousness of the younger generation in Ukraine and the rest of the world as well.

Accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian traditional instrumentation, the quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture. At the crossroads of Ukrainian folklore and theatre, their musical spectrum is at first intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms, inspiring “cultural and artistic liberation”.

THE DREAM SYNDICATE

There are two phases of The Dream Syndicate. There was the band with revolving lineups that existed from 1982 to 1988 and made four albums including “The Days of Wine and Roses” and “Medicine Show,” both of which regularly show up on Best-Of lists and have influenced bands and delighted fans in the years since.

And then there’s the band that reunited in 2012 and is closing in on its seventh year, longer than the run of Phase One, with nary a lineup change. This 21st Century version of the Dream Syndicate released “How Did I Find Myself Here” in 2017 to universal acclaim, no small feat for a band reuniting after almost three decades.

“I felt like we threaded the needle pretty nicely on the last album,” says founder and singer/guitarist/songwriter Steve Wynn, “referencing who we were and what we had done the first time around but also taking it all someplace new and fresh. It’s a tough balance. Ignore your past and you’re just using the band’s name for convenience, mire yourself too much in the past and you’re a parody—you are your own Rutles. We did neither. We were proud of the record and it was really nice to see that our fans and newcomers alike felt the same way. We were able to go out and play shows of mostly new songs and it really made us feel good to see that the audience knew the record and it was what they had come out to hear us play.”

Therefore, with that reintroduction and a full year of touring behind them, the Dream Syndicate had the freedom to take it all somewhere new, to dig a little deeper, get outside of themselves a little bit. Their new album ‘These Times’ (May 3, ANTI-) feels like a late-night radio show that you might have heard as a kid, drifting off into dreams and wondering the next morning if any of it was real.

Since emerging with a series of releases on acclaimed underground labels like Mixpak, Butterz and Glacial Sound, Murlo quickly became one of the most popular artists on the club circuit, with an unmistakable style defined by vivid colours, addictive melodies and an imaginative touch that set him apart from his peers. As his profile rose, Murlo released some of his highest-profile projects: he scored a fashion show by Nasir Mazhar, soundtracked Stormzy’s film for Adidas, and dropped a now-legendary remix of Rihanna’s ‘Work’ that dominated SoundCloud for months.

The start of 2019 saw Murlo release his long-awaited debut album Dolos, released as both a 15-track album and Murlo’s first graphic novel - a 36-page story based around themes of escapism, solace and hiding from your past - all hand-drawn, written and painted by Murlo himself. As ever with Murlo, it finds him pushing the boundaries of both music and visual art in a way that’s both innovative and genuine.

Murlo’s multi-disciplinary approach also applies to the live arena, and this new audio-visual show represents a completely immersive new live experience, featuring music from the album, unreleased material and a handful of classics woven into a unique narrative, 100% hand-drawn and animated by Murlo in his signature Ghibli-esque style. The previous incarnation of Murlo's audio-visual sold out London's prestigious ICA and a subsequent UK tour - and will be showcased at flagship electronic festival Sonar this summer - so this isn't one to be missed.

For a band that sticks to its impulses instead of trends, Cloud Nothings accumulates critical praise and loyal fans with the type of ease modern rock bands can only dream of. That’s because the Cleveland four-piece is the byproduct of Dylan Baldi, a frontman whose melodic intuition and musical fervor are as innate as they are impressive. Baldi’s early indie rock songs welcome pop warmly without sounding trite. His later alt-rock hooks are too busy criss-crossing guitar lines to overthink things. The urgency he writes with comes across in the vividness of his guitar. Since expanding his solo project into a proper band, Baldi has positioned Cloud Nothings as the torchbearers of the frenetic, visceral, and thundering rock of bands like The Wipers and Drive Like Jehu. It’s all alternating resolves and anticipated breakdowns. And live, it’s near impossible to dispute talent that palpable.

Looking back, it makes sense how Cloud Nothings got here. At the age of 18, Baldi gained attention after a string of lo-fi songs he recorded in the comfort of his basement began circulating online. It landed him a spot on a buzzed-about show in Brooklyn where, in turn, he caught the eyes of Carpark. His music began its upward ascent immediately. In 2010, Carpark released Turning On, a retrospective combo of the band’s debut EP and various 7” singles. Cloud Nothings unveiled their self-titled LP the following year, a record that showcased how crisp Baldi’s hooks sound when given proper studio time. But what followed in 2012, their breakthrough LP Attack on Memory, paved a new path for the band. The album saw Baldi throw himself into his guitar while collaborating with the rest of his touring band—drummer Jayson Gerycz, bassist TJ Duke, and guitarist Joe Boyer—to create an aggressive, unrelenting, and throat-scratching album that captured not just their sound, but their collective raw energy. Cloud Nothings fleshed out that sound further on 2014’s Here and Nowhere Else, this time as a trio after Boyer’s departure. Even when Baldi, in a decision to feed his quiet fondness for pop, used 2017’s Life Without Sound to showcase his melodic inclinations, he showed a continued growth in his songwriting skills.

Kiran Leonard is a mercurially talented 21 year old musician from Saddleworth, Greater Manchester. He takes inspiration from artists such as Mothers of Invention, Sufjan Stevens, Deerhoof, Albert Ayler, the Residents, Krzysztof Penderecki, the Beach Boys, Don Caballero, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Adrian Belew.

After releasing countless digital-only releases via Bandcamp, Kiran garnered much acclaim for his debut album Bowler Hat Soup, and later signed to Moshi Moshi to release second album proper Grapefruit. Both of these records featured x3 BBC Radio 6 Music-playlisted singles, and were crowned Album Of The Day upon their release.

Latest record Derevaun Seraun is in five movements, each inspired by a different piece of literature, arranged for piano, strings and voice.

CAROLINE

caroline is the ongoing project of an ever-expanding group of London musicians and friends. The music is written through an entirely collaborative process in studio, with each piece constantly changing and developing. The music itself often uses extensive repetition and a loose, improvised feel.

He regularly performs on banjo, loop station, keyboards, double bass, drums, penny whistle, sousaphone, accordion and many more. He is an inspirational singer and improviser, and much of his work is concerned with play, nonsense and the sonorous environment.

Cosmo composes music for film and theatre and tours internationally, performing solo and with several bands including Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit and the Gentle Mystics. He ran a community choir until 2013, teaches in schools and privately and has facilitated music workshops and youth empowerment and nature awareness camps across Europe and North America.

LEAFCUTTER JOHN

During the summer of 2017 exiled Yorkshireman Leafcutter John returned to his one-time home of Norfolk (having graduated in Painting from Norwich’s School of Art and Design back in 1998) and set out on foot along the sixty mile section of Norfolk Coast Path which runs from Hunstanton to Overstrand, trusty audio recording device in his pocket. “And very soon the physical act of walking began to make me think about music,” he explains. “My footsteps dictated the tempo and imagined melodies accompanied me as I slowly moved along the increasingly wild and magical stretch of coastline. Stresses of the city were replaced by the fall and rise of the North Sea and endless salt flats. Sounds from the environment filtered in and I would stop often to record what I was hearing around me.”

Ora The Molecule is a multinational Avant-garde pop music group, creating an unexpected sound between timeless nostalgia, smooth pop and retro electronica. This is a new sound to the Pop music landscape with emotional Calypso tinged melodies, still always irresistible danceable.

Inspired by Suzanne Vega, Kraftwerk, Fleetwood Mac, Mecano, and Norwegian singer Siri Nilsen.

Singer/songwriter Nora grew up between Spain, Italy and Norway. At age 18 she played in an all girl marimba trio performing in cable cars in Oslo. Shortly after she was invited to visit her biological father who is an American/Guatemalan living in Los Angeles. Suddenly she discovered a new part of her family, with her hispanic uncles involved in the LA Cholo culture and gangs, a culture in heavy contrast to what she had grown up with. The contrast of her family influenced her songwriting. She felt a need to express what she saw, started studying journalism and stayed in LA. She worked as a dishwasher and drove Uber to get by while trying to make it as a songwriter.

THURSTON MOORE'S GUITAR ENSEMBLE

ASHLEY PAUL

Ashley Paul is an American multi-instrumentalist / composer based in London. Her intuitive process integrates free form song structures with a focused approach to sound.

Her solo albums have received critical acclaim; featured in The Wire: Top 50 Albums of 2013, Pitchfork’s “The Out Door” best experimental sounds of 2013, number one on Byron Coley and Thurston Moore’s “Tongue Top Ten” in Arthur Magazine, and included on NPR’s All Songs Considered “Best of 2010”.

Ashley has performed the World and US premieres of Phill Niblock’s Asheli, a piece composed specifically for her and Eli Keszler and performed live with Niblock. She performed the US premiere of Mauricio Kagel’s Der Schall at Merkin Concert Hall (NYC) and premiered Anthony Coleman’s quartet Damaged by Sunlight at Banlieues Bleues Festival (Paris). Ashley’s composition “The Pace of Time” premiered at Roundhouse (London), August 2013, and was performed with Nik Colk Void and Simon Fisher Turner. She was selected as the featured artist for Counterflows Festival, 2017 where her quintet “Lost in Shadows” was premiered.

Ashley received a residency at ISSUE Project Room in 2008 and a Fellowship Grant in composition from the Rhode Island State Council of the Arts, 2010. Ashley is currently an Associate Lecturer at Goldsmiths University, London attached to the Contemporary Music and Popular Music Research Units. She has performed and/ or recorded with Thurston Moore, Rashad Becker, Loren Connors, Rhys Chatham, Charles Hayward, Lucy Railton, Aki Onda, Greg Kelley, George Russell, Joe Maneri, Joe Morris and Eric Chenaux. Ashley received her BM and MM from New England Conservatory.

Having hit a peak of inventiveness and productivity, Wire have been playing strings of sold out shows and achieving career best album sales, as well as being cited as a strong influence by yet another generation of bands, including Parquet Courts and Savages.

Wire’s latest album is ‘Silver/Lead’, a set of songs which encompasses the optimistic dazzle of ‘Diamonds In Cups’, the menacing widescreen grandeur of ‘Playing Harp For The Fishes’ and the breakneck paced guitar pop of ‘Short Elevated Period’.

Although their 15th studio album is being released on the 40th anniversary of Wire’s debut, ‘Silver/Lead’ has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future.

AUDIOBOOKS

If you’re going to call your band audiobooks, you’d better have some good stories to tell. Stories that should move you and stories to make you move. Stories about real life and surreal life and all that weirdness that you just glimpsed out of the corner of your eye.

Luckily for you, audiobooks really do. The London based duo have developed a unique ability to conjure up magical aural snapshots that wallop you like bong hits. Each of their discombobulating observations comes stretched out over a series of discomfiting oscillations, like messages from the spirit world or pulp fictions found in a box at the end of your road or a crackling pop broadcast from a far-away galaxy;

Audiobooks are Evangeline Ling and David Wrench. Evangeline is a 21 year old art student and musician from Wimbledon and David is one of the most in demand mixers and producers in modern music, a sometime cohort of Julian Cope and former denizen of North Wales – might seem an unlikely pairing. Yet a chance encounter at a mutual friend’s party just one week after David had moved south to the capital very quickly led to an experimental studio session that’s been going on ever since.

POTTERY

Hailing from across Canada and the UK, Montreal’s Pottery consists of core writers Austin Boylan and Jacob Shepansky, along with Peter Baylis, Paul Jacobs, and Tom Gould. Initially bonding over artists such as Orange Juice, Josef K and Devo, the band creates a sound that combines eclectic traces of post-punk, pop, and dance music, forming an unusual atmosphere that envelopes audiences. While often shrill and jarring, Pottery’s songs simultaneously engage listeners into a hypnotic state. It’s this dualism that binds them together, uncovering harmony within discord.

YUNG

There’s a concept in Scandinavian society called the Law of Jante, which says individuals should downplay their achievements, blend in and support the group. The music of Danish band Yung serves as an urgent, screaming retort to that idea, the sound of young iconoclasts fighting against apathy. Led by 21-year-old frontman and songwriter Mikkel Holm Silkjær, the group hails from Aarhus, Denmark’s second city, a huge port, university town and ideal place to find like minds amid the industrial grit. On the forthcoming EP “These Thoughts Are Mandatory Chores,” they show themselves to be ambassadors of their country’s increasingly vital underground music scene. Anthemic guitars, coarse feedback and driving rhythm, insistent to the point of impatience, show angst acting as a powerful fuel for self-expression, gasoline poured on a fire already fed by youthful energy.

TIÑA

Tiña (pronounced ‘teen-ya’) are the enigmatic new band from South London formed around the burgeoning Brixton Windmill scene with a wonk pop, post punk sound that comes across familiar yet new. Made up of members of an assortment of acts including Bat-Bike, Uncle Tesco, Pet Grotesque and Goat Girl - the band features: Joshua Loftin (vox/guitar), George Rhys Davies (drums), Uncle Tesco (bass), Oliver R Lester (guitar), Calum Armstrong (keys) & Lottie (vox) whose sound recently was picked up by Dan Carey from Label Speedy Wunderground and are due to release a single this coming May.

RAYANA JAY

Using velvet smooth vocals and airy harmonies, Rayana Jay's music carries a confessional, old-soul storytelling nature rooted in honesty. From love and heartbreak to womanhood and self-discovery, the 24-year-old Richmond, CA, native's music is a direct reflection of her innermost thoughts and feelings at all times. The R&B/soul singer's influences span from Organized Noize, all the way to the raw emotions of Amy Winehouse and sultry tones of Anita Baker. Jay began singing in the choir at ten years old and recorded her first professional song in the summer of 2012. She grew up with her grandmother, who introduced her to classic singers like Johnny "Guitar" Watson, along with her mom who worked at a record label in the 90s.

Rayana Jay's acclaimed debut EP, Sorry About Last Night — helmed by The Fader as one of the most relatable albums of the year dropped in the Fall of 2016 and serves as a proper introduction to her penmanship, relationship with love itself,and her changing world. Her follow-up EP, Morning After — pinned as one of the top EP’s of 2017 by BBC Radio 1 — expands on her distinct sound and place as one of future R&B's most important voices. After music features on popular shows like Grown-ish, Atlanta FX, Netflix’s On My Block in early 2018, Rayana Jay is currently working on her next album and planning for a tour in the late Fall.

HONEY MOONCIE

17-year-old Honey Mooncie began writing songs at just 11-years-old, influenced by jazz greats such as Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, Etta James and Chet Baker.

Her modern jazz sound draws from a wide range of contemporary artists including Bruno Major, Lianne La Havas, Joy Crookes & Poppy Ajudha. And her beautiful, light vocal has been likened to Billie Holiday and Minnie Riperton to name a few. She played an outstanding first live performance at The Troubadour in Jan-19 and has since received glowing reviews for shows at The Bedford, Hampstead Jazz Club, Clutch Chicken and w12 Studios.

When you think of all things Pink, a sound that fuses the likings of Basement Jaxx, the Gorillaz, CSS, and Tom Tom Club, with lyrics focused on “women empowerment” and re-defining the definition of “kawaii” or cute in Japanese, you think of CHAI.

Formed in 2012, in the Nagoya region of Japan, identical twins Mana (voc/keys) and Kana (gt./cho.) would ask fellow high school classmate, Yuna (dr./cho.), and later Yuki (ba./cho.), a college acquaintance, to join what we now know as CHAI. Both independent releases, “Hottaraka Series” which translates to “irresponsible series”, was the title of CHAI’s 1st EP released in December of 2016, soon followed by “Homegoro Series”, their 2nd EP, released in April of the following year.
