New to the game but old to its’ ways, 22-year-old Melbourne lyricist Remi ‘REMI’ Kolawole exudes a unique style, rhythmic flow and an honest delivery. His semi tongue-in-cheek braggadocios style, by no means overshadows his lyrical abilities. REMI’s rapping persona is comfortable sitting amongst varying musical backdrops and tempos, and his singing voice is as smooth and catchy as the hooks he sings. Expertly balancing singing and rapping, REMI’s content is highly self-referential, littered with pop-cultural tid bits and tales of a life equally footed in fantasy as it is reality.
REMI’s track record is that of a busy man. 2011 saw the release of two EP’s (“CHILDISH” and “FIVE BEATS I LOVE”), and the completion of his first album “REGULAR PEOPLE SH#%T” in 2012. In April 2013 REMI dropped a decidedly big tune in “SANGRIA”, his incredibly catchy tribute to days off and drinks with the homies, and the first single lifted from the forthcoming album. “SANGRIA”, and its accompanying video in all its laid back Melbourne summer glory, was an instant reminder of that season just passed, but most importantly, a re-introduction to the exceptionally talented and infinitely likeable sounds of one of the brightest new voices in Australian rap.
Not much is known about this artist, however after hearing early demo's you can be sure it's the start of something very special.
