Call it humility, or call it shyness if you want. In any case, Sumie Nagano has always been wary of sharing her art with the world. With her guitar and voice as the only tools, a few years ago she started to record her self-composed material at the home. Her self-titled debut album is out on Bella Union is out later this year, recorded in Berlin with producer Dustin O'Halloran and pianist / composer Nils Frahm.
SOPHIE JAMIESON
Having begun as a shy solo singer-songwriter, Sophie Jamieson’s project has evolved rapidly into something ambient and haunting. What were once quiet, melancholy folk songs are growing in strength and gaining atmosphere at the hands of her band, to provide one of the most engaging live sets taking place in London and earning Sophie support from BBC 6Music amongst many others. Sophie and her bandmates, Liam Hoflay and Alex Betancourt, continue to grace London venues on a regular basis. Drawing comparisons to the likes to Daughter, Sharon Van Etten and Beach House, the quiet three-piece are constantly pushing their sound, with the promise of yet more compelling material to come.
