RFB welcome back Canada's Rural Alberta Advantage to play amongst the special surroundings of Islington's Assembly Hall in November.
In 2006 singer-songwriter Nils Edenloff, percussionist Paul Banwatt, and multi-instrumentalist Amy Cole came together to release their debut self-titled EP as The Rural Alberta Advantage. The ensuing years have brought two full-length albums (2008’s Hometowns and 2011’s Departing), widespread critical praise (SPIN, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR, among others), two Juno Award Nominations (Best New Group, Video of the Year), a Long List Nomination for the Polaris Music Prize, and a hard-earned reputation as one of the most impressive live bands you’ll ever see. It was through all of this that The RAA’s latest album, Mended With Gold, took shape.
Paul Saulnier and Benjamin Nelson raised their band from Kingston’s lowest places, from bars and basements and late-night pits of the heart, above the swirling fug of death dreams and depression, until this two-piece rock’n’roll act was like a black and red corona setting St George’s aglow.
‘For Those Who Stay’ is PS I Love You’s third album, and it was made after Paul quit Kingston for a different big smoke. Of course the band had to go back to Kingston to record it – working at a place called the Bathouse, the duo’s first time in “a proper studio”.
Tickets for this show are priced at £12.50 and are available from the following links:
