Since 2010, Toy have earned a reputation as a band of integrity, virtuosity and taste, with Tom, Maxim, Dominic, Charlie and (joining in 2015) Max creating a sound that is embedded in the underground tradition, yet distinctly their own. Since their inception, they have released the acclaimed albums Toy (2012), Join The Dots (2013) and Clear Shot (2016), and toured everywhere from Serbia to China.
TOY are: Tom Dougall (vocals / guitar), Dominic O’Dair (guitars), Maxim Barron (bass / vocals), Max Oscarnold (synths / modulations) & Charlie Salvidge (drums / vocals).
The Shadracks are a three-piece rock n’ roll group hailing from Medway, Kent, with Babylonian overtones.
Drawing lyrics from the forgetfulness and lost hope the group aims to play 40 years in the past, but with modern precision. The origins of the group date back over 6 months when Huddie Shadrack and Ellisa Abednego had a brief encounter in deserted park land. With a sheared an interest in incompetent punk and beat music it became paramount that they form a group, and quickly. At that very moment they heard the dulcet twang of old onion strings being plucked in the near versinity. Scouring the herbaceous borders the two friends happened upon Elle Meshack, harp in hand. Could she fix them into shape?
The answer was ‘yes!’ So via a frosty garage in upper Strood The Shadracks’ sound came into being.
After just two rehearsals the cocky kids decided it was high time they recorded a debut LP. And so it came to pass.
Adrena Adrena is a collaboration between visual artist Daisy Dickinson and drummer E-Da Kazuhisa, previously the drummer of the Japanese noise band Boredoms (WEA Japan, Reprise/Warner Brothers) and currently British electronic/post-rock band Seefeel (Rephlex, Warp Records). The duo cut a raw blend of drums, noise and organic visual work, featuring in their performances an eight foot white sphere that hangs above Kazuhisa’s drum kit and which Dickinson maps videos on to; her visuals were described by Fluid Radio as ‘cosmological and transcendental, drawing attention to the wonder of the earth and our sensuality on it’.
As a duo, their debut was at the International Festival of Projections in 2016 and have since performed at The Institute of Contemporary Arts London, CERN Geneva, End of The Road Festival, Supernormal Festival, Zorofest in Leipzig and other shows and festivals across the UK, Europe and Japan, with Acid Mothers Temple and members of Can, Faust, Wire and Bo Ningen. The pair completed a short film in 2016. ‘Man on the Hill’, which features E-da playing drums on fire in the mountains. The film was nominated for The BFI London Film Festival, Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival, BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival, The London Experimental Film Festival, Vienna Independent Film Festival and the London Short Film Festival.
