TRUDY AND THE ROMANCE
Liverpudlian three-piece Trudy have thoroughly intrigued over the last year following the release of three eye-catching singles, 'All My Love', 'Behave' and 'Baby I'm Blue'. Having spent some time recording in Parr Street with Bill Ryder-Jones, they are now set to return with mutant 50s pop stomper, 'He Sings'.
On 'He Sings', singer Oliver Taylor’s intricate guitar playing and distinctive vocals are held in place by a turbulent rhythm section as the band continue to explore blending a combination of shuffling beats, 60's girl group and doo wop sensibilities, and a ramshackle DIY aesthetic.
Listen to 'He Sings' below.
"One thing’s for sure - this is one of the best debuts we’ve heard for quite some time" - DIY
"hazy melodies mirroring a yearning for an escape" - Louder Than War
"Her’s strike an immediate blow with the brilliantly sludgy take on tropical pop" - Gold Flake Paint
As outsiders from sleepy coastal towns on different coastlines, Stephen Fitzpatrick from Barrow in Furness and Norwegian Audun Laading met for the first time in Liverpool as students. The pair bonded over a love of peculiar, sardonic humour and wide eyed observations. Dream-pop outfit Her’s is the natural extension to the solitary decoding of the cultures they grew up in. “Dorothy”, the pairs first offering, debuted on DIY earlier this month to a huge uptake drawing comparisons to Ariel Pink, Wild Nothing, DIIV and Beach Fossils.
Stephen's booming baritone and despondent manner is particularly distinctive, giving the band a striking aesthetic allied with Audun’s choppy bass lines and a relentless drum machine. An ever present jangling guitar pours over in sharp contrast resulting in a sound which feels deeply personal. Her’s are the closest of idiosyncratic partnerships formed from unlikely of circumstances.
Puma Blue is Jacob Allen from South East London. Citing Jeff Buckley, D'Angelo, Billie Holiday, Mac Demarco, J Dilla, Chet Baker, John Frusciante, Radiohead & DJ Harrison as his major influences, Jacob creates darkly romantic soul with his heart-wrenching vocal at the fore.
Tickets for the show are priced at £6 and are available NOW.
