Presenting the second in a special week-long series of curated events and shows in London, titled Illuminations. Taking place across a variety of venues around the city in November, this sees the first announced event featuring Unknown Mortal Orchestra and special guests at Camden's historic Electric Ballroom venue on Thursday 7th November. Tickets are on-sale Friday 12th April at 9am.
‘II’ builds on the break-beat, junk-shop charm the 32-year-old multi-instrumentalist and songwriter came to be renowned for following his self-titled 2011 debut, and signals the solidification of Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s position as an endlessly intriguing, brave psychedelic band. UMO is unafraid to dig deeper than the rest to lock into their intoxicating, opiate groove and bring rock’n’roll’s exaggerated myths to life.
Written during a punishing, debauched touring schedule during which Nielson feared for both his sanity and health, ‘II’ illustrates the emotional turmoil of life on the road, painting surrealist, cartoonish portraits of loneliness, love and despair.
After forming Wampire, Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps steadily began to make a name for themselves in the same Portland, OR, scene that has produced labelmates STRFKR as well as Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Their Polyvinyl-released debut album Curiosity was produced by none other than UMO bassist - Jacob Portrait.
Dutch youngsters Mozes and the Firstborn released their self titled debut album earlier this year on Top Notch records.
