To celebrate fifteen years of working with, and releasing music by bands they love, Wichita Recordings are throwing some birthday parties. The shows include a performance from their latest signing, Oscar, who opens up for Los Campesinos!, a band they have been working with since 2007. The other show will be headlined by someone who just released her third album with the label, Waxahatchee, alongside a recent management signing from Brighton, Theo Verney.
The label was started in 2000 by Dick Green and Mark Bowen following the sale of Dick’s previous label, Creation Records. Their first release included early work by Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket and Yeah Yeah Yeahs amongst others. Fifteen years later Wichita now also encompasses publishing and management companies.
Wichita Recordings is still on the line, just like the lineman sung about in the song they are named after.
Gareth from Los Campesinos! has some words he'd like to say about the occasion...
"Perennial plus 1s, we’re never ones to turn down the opportunity to poop a party, and so here we are all set to spike the punch at Wichita Recordings’ 15th Birthday Bash. We’ll be rolling into London town, insulting the decor and monopolising the buffet on Sunday November 22nd, to play a rock concert with support from our Wichita label mate Oscar.
Wichita are a class act, and the greatest people we’ve had the pleasure of working with during our time as a band. They’ve been a constant, encouraging presence every step of the way, so it’s our honour to be invited to play to celebrate their milestone.
We’ll be playing songs from our 5 studio albums, and getting excited about making a 6th one."
23 year old Oscar Scheller AKA Oscar has cut a dash through indie music press in the UK and the US with his bedroom recorded laptop pop over the past year, so much so that in January he announced he had signed to legendary British indie Wichita, home of Waxahatchee, Girlpool and more.
