EXCLUSIVE: Evangelista - The Winds of St. Anne (Constellation)

By: Charlie Potter

Evangelista - Hello VoyagerSo many journalists overuse the words doom and drone, but doom drone is exactly what Evangelista are. 'The Winds of St. Anne' is taken from the band's Hello Voyager album, and displays a similar starkness to bands like The Locust Eaters and Asva. That, and all through the track is a soft feedback glow off set by a particularly scratchy guitar sound that has been run through delay units to provide an almost Neurosis like intensity.

Over the top of said intense drone come Carla Bozulich's vocals (a lady formerly of The Geraldine Fibbers and Ethyl Meatplow), sounding something like Jarboe meets Lydia Lunch, and it's this voice that really makes 'The Winds of St. Anne' what it is; the combination of the wandering vocals and the zoned out guitar puts you in mind of the more trippy 'Riders on the Storm' style tracks by The Doors.

Download it HERE (you might want to practice your 'right click and save as' skills).
