The thing that really galls me is the 500. It’s a big bucket of ‘oh, just f**k off’. Jesus wept at the idea of reading, listening to, thinking about and maybe responding to that. It’s just so FUTILE.
Are they simply sticking fingers up at all magazines and smaller websites by saying: we have the staff and technology and sales relationships and idiotically autistic, lonely, pedantic readership required to do this and none of yall do, nurrrhhhuhhh!

The only thing that will matter is the top 20 so why not just cut the sh*t and do a top 20, have the balls not to need to lick the nipples of every half assed derivative act you’ve given a reach around to in the past decade. By having 500 tracks you confer necessity, importance—that these things must be included, that somehow a list of top tracks of the 00s which did not include JAY REATARD would somehow be a half measure. Seriously? Jay Reatard?
What I want to see is a list of top artists talked about that I could not summon the energy to listen to because MY LIFE IS TOO SHORT.
THAT would be a list worthy of 500 entries.
Also, that ‘SPONSORED BY HAGENDAAS’ is hilarious.
