Fact x Importance = News #2: The Beatles, Fever Ray, Speech Debelle, Public Image Limited
By: Matt Tomiak
Beatles, eh? Oh, yes. I seem to remember their off-key caterwauling on the old Sullivan show. What WAS Ed thinking…?
The amount of column inches and cyberspace bandwith devoted to the re-issues by EMI of the mop-topped Merseybeaters’ entire back catalogue this week, along with ‘The Beatles: Rock Star’ game is enough to turn even the most devoted fan into a Mr. Burns-style curmudgeon.
Elsewhere, Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife plays one off London gig at HMV Forum in Kentish Town on the 5th of December in her Fever Ray guise - “a mental/emotional character that is able to develop all the time” as she told this site earlier this year, and Rockfeedback- approved 2009 Barclaycard Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle has enjoyed a whopping 4000% rise in album sales.
The influence of John Lydon’s much-venerated post-punk outfit Public Image Limited was much in evidence amongst acts at the Fistful of Fandango 3 series via acts like Neil’s Children, and the former Sex Pistol (pictured) is taking PiL on the road once more in December, with dates in Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester and London. Forty quid a ticket, mind.
