What the hell is going on? #7: Transgressive Week

By: Thomas Hannan

Transgressive

Mornin’ all.

It’s time for Rockfeedback to get all ‘proud big brother’ on you, and announce that our dear sister company Transgressive – the record label, publishing imprint and artist and producer management team who number many of the same staff as our good selves – is five years old this week.  And my, isn’t she maturing nicely...

...And my, that’s the creepiest thing I’ve ever said.  But in all honesty, we couldn’t be prouder of what the Transgressive team have achieved in their first half decade, and getting to witness their hard work and dedication paying off at such close quarters has truly been an honour.  Responsible for bringing you records by the likes of Foals, Graham Coxon, Young Knives, The Shins, Iron and Wine, Regina Spektor, Johnny Flynn, The Noisettes and more, we think they’re the best bloody thing in the whole sodding world.

They’re celebrating this week with a series of birthday gigs, and we’re celebrating with a playlist of Transgressive-related videos on Rockfeedback TV over the coming days.  We’ll start later today (Monday) with a set from Irish newcomers Two Door Cinema Club playing the inaugural Hinterland Festival in Glasgow earlier this year.  Tomorrow we've footage of our good buddy and current artist of the week Liam Finn filmed live at a characteristically raucous show for Rockfeedback at its old home of the Cross Kings in London.  Wednesday sees Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson treat us to some exclusive acoustic renditions of tracks from his sublime self titled debut LP down by the river in down town Austin, Texas.  Come Thursday, we’ll point you in the direction of a performance from the infinitely loveable Wet Paint at Rockfeedback’s own club night, the same night that hosted Friday’s Rockfeedback TV stars The Rakes when they played for us at London’s Lexington earlier this year (Transgressive’s Tim having released their first single on his prior label, Trash Aesthetics).

What’s more, we’re giving away tickets to the opening night of the Transgressive Anniversary shows, where you can pick the setlist played by headliners Young Knives, get scared sh*tless by the ever brilliant Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man and think to yourself, yes, Wet Paint really do sound a lot like Pavement (this is OK, because Pavement are brilliant – welcome back boys!).

A finer sister we couldn’t ask for – happy birthday Transgressive!
