What the hell is going on? #15: Rockfeedback’s World Tour Pt. 5
By: Thomas Hannan

After the globe-trotting, documentary shooting, no sleep enjoying madness of last week, I’m cautiously optimistic that we might between now and Friday be able to settle down a little and bask in the simple but deep joys provided by straight up, good music. Sounds idyllic, non? My plan is to show you some videos of the stuff, and then get out to some gigs.
The videos in question see us once again board the good ship HMS Rockfeedback for the fifth part in our hopefully perpetual world tour. First stop is Berlin, where we enjoy the erudite company and endearing croon of one time Moldy Peach Adam Green, who played to a crowd of rapturous German types at the 2008 MELT! Festival in the post-industrial wasteland of Ferropolis. Wednesday brings with it a performance and interview held at this year’s inaugural Hinterland Festival in Glasgow from local types, and our current artists of the week, our pals in Copy Haho, who’ll delight with Pavement-esque melodiousness and the driest of wits we’ve encountered in a new band for a while. They embark on a big UK tour this week, and hopefully next year holds things as exciting for them as this year held for Friday’s Rockfeedback TV stars The XX, who we capture at a seductively moody gig at this year’s Camden Crawl festival, where we try to convince them of their similarity to owls (the animal, not the band) in a subsequent chat. Like everyone else, we love that band.
Rockfeedback linchpin Matt Tomiak’s in the office tonight, which can only mean we’ll be laying down another episode of the Rockfeedback podcast. Thanks for the great response to the last few – we’ll try and make our voices extra warm and comforting in the next one, to keep you snug through the winter. It’s a winter worth braving though, with Rockfeedback DJs turning out at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club tomorrow (17th of November) for the latest instalment of one of our favourite nights in London other than our own, the film-recreating madness of Videopia. Tomorrow night sees the crew recreating scenes from Tim Burton’s Batman, and given that the soundtrack for it was made by Prince, that gives us more of an excuse than ever to play a load of the Purple fella’s songs in to the night, after sets by The Good Gods, No Cars, Cat House and Fat Drop have gotten people suitably in the zone.
If you’ve signed up to the weekly Rockfeedback mailouts or have been reading our Artist of the Week pieces of late, you’ll have noticed contributions from a lady named Jessica Flora-Weiss, who’s done a great job of making such sections her own over the past few months. Jess is taking a break until January however, as her band, the excellent Curly Hair, are off to follow sessions with XFM and BBC 6 Music with a tour alongside ex-Arab Strap type Malcolm Middleton. Find out about those dates on their MySpace page, and if you fancy saying hello, join us for their No Pain In Pop gig at 3 Greenland Place, Camden on Thursday night, which comes highly recommended. This is me, highly recommending it.
Bye bye,
Tom.x
