What the hell is going on? #17: Rockfeedback’s World Tour Pt. 6

By: Thomas Hannan

Awight.

I don’t know what the hell is going on this week to be honest.  Last night, team Rockfeedback (plus sometime scribe of ours Lawrence of Official Secrets Act) only finished FIFTH in the Rough Trade Pub Quiz.  Tomorrow night, one of us is actually pretending to be a rock star rather than a rock critic and actually PLAYING a gig at the Lexington in London, rather than, say, promoting or reviewing one.  The day after, Rockfeedback creator Toby L is having a birthday party where anyone who isn’t wearing a monkey costume isn’t allowed in.  And that’s before the weekend’s even hit us.  Honestly, the entire world’s gone completely head over tit.

Thank Christ that we have the reliable, predictable brilliance of Rockfeedback TV’s upcoming schedule to ground us somewhat.  Back on the perennial World Tour, our week started on Monday with one of my favourite pieces of RFB telly uploaded thus far, a set from Magik Markers (pictured above) at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona earlier this year.  In it, they play about three notes proper, a load of noise, and discuss everything from the wisdom of Dire Straits to how the Spanish sun is great for getting and even tan on one’s genitals.  Brilliant – cast an eye over it.  On Wednesday, L.A. guitar butchers HEALTH ponder hearing loss and childbirth in between footage of an incendiary performance at the Tufnell Park Dome in London, before a turn for the more conventional but equally loveable come Friday, when it’s the turn of We Were Promised Jetpacks to woo us at Glasgow’s inaugural Hinterland Festival with wistful, nigh-on anthemic indie pop.

Rather than slowing down before Christmas, we’re running at it head first, planning a pair of Christmas shows – the first one involving the Rumble Strips, Thomas Truax and Internet Forever playing at London’s Lexington for us on the 10th of December (tickets here), the second one seeing Peggy Sue, Curly Hair, Tristram, Chess Club DJs and some extra special guests who should definitely not be playing a show this tiny all appearing for us on a freakin’ boat called the Tamesis Dock on the banks of the Thames in Vauxhall come December 15thTickets for that here.  We’re also currently balls deep in our records of the year and records of the decade lists – the definitive word on everything, in a hierarchical order, delivered to you in the coming fortnight.

Thanks for reading.  Maybe things will have settled down come next week.  Or then again...

Tom.
