Fruit Bats European Tour Diary Pt.7 Paris
By: Eric D. Johnson
We had the day off between Milan and Paris and took the back roads much of the way to save on tolls and see the countryside, which looked like postcards you’d get at an art museum with hills and pastures and white cows everywhere. We got to the city with just enough time to walk around and fully wear ourselves out. The show was a fun surprise. This was another nice little breakthrough night for us. I had no idea what to expect as far as crowd reaction here. There is a general stereotype that the French like arty electronic stuff only, so I had lingering questions as to whether or not the Parisians would take to our rather American-sounding guitar choogles. The worries were completely unfounded as we took the stage to a full house, attentive and singing along, even some footloose booty-shaking dancing to be had. Even the cheap backstage wine was great. Later as we wandered the streets of the 19th Arrondissement, a drunk homeless dude was hassling us. I noticed that the booze that he held in his hand was not malt liquor nor schnapps nor Mad Dog, but a pretty decent looking bottle of Champagne. France!
