Fruit Bats – European Tour Diary Pt.9 – Barcelona

By: Eric D. Johnson

Switzerland to Spain in one long day. Granted, from the closest two corners of those very different countries, but a long-ass drive nonetheless. It was nice to watch the piney snowy Alps give way to pasture and then finally the scrubby Chaparral of the Mediterranean lowlands. The weather was speaking to me, I tells ya. The venue in Barcelona was on Las Ramblas, the most touristy stretch of road in urban Spain. I had been dreaming of tapas, paella, sangria... but had to settle for a still-excellent falafel, as my hunger was at a fever pitch - close to what we refer to as “Hanger” - a cross between hunger and anger. This was our best audience of the tour, drunk, excited, packed in like sardines and really into it. I felt like they were wasted on what turned out to be poor stage sound and a somewhat lackluster performance on our part. I’d like to assure Barcelona that we’ll be back and I’ll give it my all next time.
