Fruit Bats European Tour Diary Pt.20 Hull

Hull
Not to stoke any fires of rivalry, but when we told Londoners we were headed to Hull for our next show, they acted like we were headed to some war-torn third world nation and implored us to take up weapons or hire guides. OK, not really. But people seemed concerned. Well, we had a great time in Hull! A gritty, old school little port town with a meat and potatoes feel, it was just like places I’d grown up and I got the vibe right away. We played at the legendary Adelphi club, a venue that had been bombed by the Luftwaffe in WWII, and then years later had seen the likes of Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Pavement, and about ten million other heavy hitters. The sense of history was palpable in the joint. After being fed an absolutely heavenly Indian food feast, we took the stage to a pretty well attended room (keep in mind we’re the untested headliners now), and some superfans up front singing along to every word. Those kids up front kept us going and we had a hell of a good show. We had one of the better after parties of the tour at the Adelphi as well, hanging with owner Paul Jackson and a bunch of new Hull friends, pulling pints of local beer, getting a bit drunk and shooting the shit. Good times! I’m pretty sure we just took East Yorkshire by storm, and it felt pretty good to me.
