Fruit Bats European Tour Diary Pt.21 London (2)

London
Back to London again, this time for our own gig in Brixton. The Windmill is a great little joint tucked away on a side street. Another fantastic pre-show meal, this time in the form of Jamaican food, sitting happily in my belly as we took the stage. Pretty decent turnout once again. Someone at Jazz Cafe had told us the other night, “Don’t expect much in the UK.” Thanks for the vote of confidence, there, stranger! So far they were wrong; the Windmill show was sweaty and packed to the gills. At some point during the first song, one of the house speakers blew out. Our amps and pedalboards were shorting out on a regular basis. And my microphone, once again, was administering shock therapy to my lips anytime I’d get close enough to sing. Yup. It’s not exactly the Forum. But the people were cool, and we played through the issues. This is more what your big city debut is supposed to be like. Any hubris we were feeling was sinking like the Titanic. But yeah, I had a cool night. We’ll be back, London. Hope you liked. Tell yer friends, OK?
