What The Hell Is Going On? #27: Field Day 2010 Week
By: Thomas Hannan

Hey.
What with Field Day recently announcing the line up for its Summer 2010 incarnation, it seemed like an appropriate time to dedicate a week of Rockfeedback Televisual Programming to a festival we’re delighted to have filmed each and every year since its 2007 inception.
This year’s Field Day sees a headline performance from all conquering French rock trope Phoenix, the bill ably fleshed out by Silver Apples (YES!!!), Caribou, Corsano and Flowers, Esben and the Witch, Amiina, Beth Jeans Houghton, Chilly Gonzales, Gold Panda, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, James Holden, Joker and MC Nomad, Max Tundra, Memory Tapes, Mouse on Mars and Pantha Du Prince. And that’s just for starters – expect hundreds more to be added to the bill for what becomes the capital’s finest (alright, only) annual psychedelic village fete. It all takes place in East London’s Victoria Park on the 31st of July 2010, with tickets priced at a very reasonable £33.33 available from www.seetickets.com as of right now. Visit www.fielddayfestivals.com for more information.
To get you in the mood, we’ll be going Field Day mad on Rockfeedback.TV this week, uploading a couple of artists packs and three whole feature-length documentaries, one about each year of the festival so far. So today it’s the turn of our 2007 Field Day special, featuring the likes of Foals, Bat For Lashes, Electrelane, Four Tet, Justice, Late of the Pier and more, before Tuesday’s Les Savy Fav special, filmed at the 2008 event. Wednesday brings with it an episode focused on 2008’s Field Day, taking in music and chat from Noah and the Whale, Les Savy Fav, Laura Marling, Fionn Regan and Simian Mobile Disco to name but a few. That’s followed by the return to the RFB.TV player of Owen Pallet’s Final Fantasy on Thursday, performing at Field Day ’09, before we close the week on Friday with our special on 2009’s festival, revealing music and words from the hands and mouths of Mogwai, the Mystery Jets, The Big Pink, Toumani Diabate and Micachu amongst a whole lot more.
Can I let you in on a secret? I’m cheating a bit this week. I’m not even here. As I write this, it’s a Friday, and I’m in London. But as you read it, it’s a Monday, and I’m in New York City. Hooray for me, right? But what’s in it for you? Well, as well as just having a bit of a f**king holiday, I’m also going to be doing a follow up interview with Andrew W.K. for Rockfeedback.TV – you lot seemed to go completely mental about the whole sh*t storm that ensued when we first featured A.W.K. on RFB.TV, so I’ll be sure to be on tip top form for our next meeting. Expect another Real Talk of baffling proportions as soon as I’m back.
I picked a bit of a bad week to flee the country to be honest, as there are couple of corking Rockfeedback gigs going on this week which I’m saddened to be missing. Firstly, if I pretend that I’m writing this on a Monday, that means tonight sees our single launch for robe clad 22 piece all girl dubstep choir Gaggle in St. Giles In The Fields Church in central London – if you’re lucky, there are still a few tickets here. But I’m also missing our first dedicated folk night, ‘Over The Green Hills’, featuring Anna Calvi, Kassidy, Andrew Davie and Lulu & The Lampshades at the Hoxton Bar and Grill on Thursday the 25th (tickets here), the same day on which in the afternoon we’ve got Fionn Regan coming in to film the next of the Rockfeedback Sessions (with ones from No Age, Laura Gibson, Los Campesinos!, Laura Viers, Alessi’s Ark and Two Door Cinema Club already in the can, and coming to Rockfeedback TV imminently...). So go to those shows, and dance around twice as hard in my absence. Party like Andrew W.K. parties when he’s listening to ‘1999’ by Prince. Imagine that...
