What The Hell Is Going On? #28: Underage Festival Week
By: Thomas Hannan

Afternoon sir, afternoon madam.
What the hell is going on? Your guess is as good as mine mate. I’m jetlagged to hell having just got back from a week’s mincing around Manhattan, having the time of my little life. In between looking at extremely tall buildings, getting snowed in to art galleries and watching the Sugarhill Gang do ‘Rappers Delight’ as the half time entertainment for the New York Knicks vs the Memphis Grizzlies at Madison Square Garden (I won’t lie, that was pretty cool), I did manage to do a bit of work – catching up with Andrew WK for a follow up interview regarding this whole mess we sprang last year. Watch footage of that and the resulting town hall style Q and A session held at his NYC pad, Santos Party House, on Rockfeedback TV shortly.
Speaking of Rockfeedback TV, the televisual side of our site lends itself entirely to the Underage Festival this week, with tickets on sale already and the line up due to be announced any minute. Monday saw the unveiling of a full length episode on the first ever Underage Festival in 2007, where the likes of Crystal Castles, Lethal Bizzle (pictured), the Mystery Jets, Jack Penate and Young Knives showed the kids what’s what. An artist special on grimester JME hits RFB.TV today ahead of Wednesday’s Underage 2008 half-hour feature, with Dizzee Rascal, Foals, Glasvegas, The Maccabees and Wild Beasts taking to the stage. A whole piece on Hadouken! performing at the ’09 event will be with you on Thursday, before one last full length-er, on Underage 2009, hits screens on Friday, bringing The Horrors, Ladyhawke, Tincy Stryder, Patrick Wolf and The XX with it.
It seems like there’s a Rockfeedback gig every week at the moment, and that’s just the way I like it – good bands and my favourite people in a room together. Having missed the last two due to the aforementioned Manhattan mincing, I’m sure as hell not going to be anywhere other than The Lexington in North London on Friday. And neither should you – DD/MM/YYYY, Islet and Mice are playing a gig for us ahead of the White Light club night taking us in to the early morning. Get a ticket, and say hello – I’ll be the one wearing jeans and a t shirt.
