What The Hell Is Going On? #34: SXSW 2010 Week

By: Thomas Hannan

Hey mate.

Whilst out in Austin, Texas last month for the 2010 SXSW music conference, we had an even bigger blast than that made when Iceland decided to be sick all over the skies of Europe last week.  In amongst meeting legends as diverse as The Dillinger Escape Plan and Smokey Robinson (footage of both with you shortly), we managed to catch a whole host of new acts only now starting to make waves in the UK – and we’re dedicating a week’s worth of Rockfeedback TV to three such artists.  We start today with the frighteningly ambitious but quite, quite brilliant synth-goth stylings of Zola Jesus [pictured above - watch HERE], following her on Wednesday with the equally impressive psychedelic post-punk of Bear In Heaven performing at the Rockfeedback SXSW Pizza Party.  Friday comes, as Friday does, and brings with it the first thing we shot all festival – the effortlessly summery Neon Indian talking us through the differences between his bedroom-made record and the full band onslaught we had our cameras witness.

If you’re thinking of coming to any of the upcoming Rockfeedback gigs, then well done – clearly you, sir or madam, are a person of taste.  If you’ve not got a ticket for the one you’ve got in mind yet, then today’s an especially good day to sort yourself out with one, as our friends at WeGotTickets are having a ‘no booking fee day’ to celebrate their 10th anniversary.  May we recommend the forthcoming Three Trapped Tigers EP launch we’re running at the ever so plush Institute of Contemporary Art in London on Thursday of next week [tickets here]?  Or any of the rest, really.

Speaking of which, Daniel Spaniel Monsell of Rockfeedback Live will be DJing at the WeGotTickets birthday bash this evening at The Bull & Gate in Kentish Town, north London, with live entertainment coming in the form of Exlovers and Jonquil.  Get down to that, and boisterously request ‘You Can Call Me Al’, which all Rockfeedback DJs are required to carry a copy of at all times.

Our Apologies, but our scheduled show with Growing and Hyrst at the Kilburn Luminaire has been postponed until further notice.  Details about the rescheduled show will be with you shortly, and refunds are available from point of purchase.

Cheers,

Tom.x
