What The Hell Is Going On? #54: Rockfeedback is ten years old today!

By: Thomas Hannan

Hey mate.

10 years ago today, a boy sat in his boxer shorts in a room in a house in High Wycombe and uploaded a website called Rockfeedback.com to the internet, which was still accessed largely by dial-up modems slower than a Sunn O))) record played at 2rpm.  Its aim was to be a place where the snobbish build ‘em up, knock ‘em down culture of late nineties music journalism was noticeable only by its absence, a publication with an unashamedly positive look on things that would later spawn a club night and critically acclaimed television show.  We’re not entirely sure how it all happened, but we’re bloody glad it did.

As you might have noticed, we’re celebrating.  Our big party on Friday night with British Sea Power, Future of the Left, Three Trapped Tigers, Anna Calvi and some secret guests is now a triumphant sell out.  If you turn up after 11pm however, there will be a few spaces free to witness the likes of Bloc Party, Olugbenga from Metronomy, Geoff Travis from Rough Trade, White Heat and our good selves as we incite an all night disco party.

Furthermore, on this very site there are all kinds of specially commissioned feature articles from some of our finest writers, and a slew of new ‘It’s Genius, I Swear’ columns (bands we love telling us about records they love) to sink your teeth in to.

On the telly player this week, as it’s our birthday, we’re looking back at some of our greatest hits.  There’s been fervent debate in the office as to what exactly the best of Rockfeedback TV is, and no clear winner stands out – we’ve all agreed however that footage of Andrew WK potentially confessing his non existence, our illegal escapades with Blacksand in Pyestock, firm RFB favourites Lightning Bolt’s first ever gig on a stage, Daniel Johnston delivering an exclusive acoustic session in and Wildbirds & Peacedrums performing a gig with a twenty strong drum circle is stuff of which we’re incredibly proud.  As a result, one will be front page every day this week, in that order – we hope you enjoy, and recommend doing so over a piece of birthday cake.
