What The Hell Is Going On? #56: Nina Nastasia, Tortoise & Kong
By: Thomas Hannan

Hey mate,
We toyed with calling this week’s column ‘a few of our favourite things’, because that’s essentially what we’re bringing you on Rockfeedback TV over the coming days – brand new footage from three artists that might not sound anything like each other, but share brilliance in abundance.
We start today with another in our exclusive Rockfeedback Sessions, this time delivered by Californian songstress Nina Nastasia (pictured). A favourite of John Peel, Steve Albini and indeed Rockfeedback, Nina delivers a selection of songs from her remarkable recent LP The Outlaster as we sit back in awe, and ask the occasional question. The first of two total left turns is taken on Thursday when Tortoise ascend to the front page with a thoroughly classy set of post rock recorded at the 2010 Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona. Ending things on an unapologetically foul note on Friday are the inimitable Kong, who take off their clothes, don guitars and truly batter a Club Rockfeedback audience at the Old Blue Last in London just a few weeks back.
Elsewhere on the site, we’ve rightly made Deerhunter our band of the week, and in return they’ve kindly offered a few copies of that wonderful new album of theirs, Halcyon Digest, for a competition you can enter over here. We’d also stay tuned for the continuation of the ‘It’s Genius, I Swear’ column – bands writing about their favourite weird records, in essence – as the likes of Crass, Boris and Chrome Hoof will all be chucking in their two pence over the course of the week.
Rockfeedback Live ends our week with a pair of shows to usher in the weekend, starting with Thursday’s Morning Benders gig at The Borderline, for which tickets can be purchased here. Friday’s gig with Frankie and the Heartstrings and Summer Camp at The Lexington is indeed sold out, but fear not, as we’re running an identical show the Friday after, for which a couple of tickets still remain.
