RFBX: ‘It’s Genius, I Swear’ Special – A Selection from Boris
By: Atsuo

Hello there,
Due to our name and its origin, people may think and talk about MELVINS as only major influence on Boris.
Though I don’t deny it, as I am Japanese so I have listened to many Japanese music for years and they are also major influence to me.
Since a book called “Japrocksampler” by Julian Cope released, some people may hear or may face Japanese rock or its ‘twisted’ history.
These are the music that Boris has listened to grow up real time among those twisted Japanese musical culture, I would like to show you a part of it as an introduction, let me say "ahead of Japrocksampler".
They have put out many records but I wanted to pick up my most favorite one.
Atsuo / Boris
YBO2 / Live Bootleg (1987)
They are absolutely the biggest influence on me in the world. Their driving force Masashi Kitamura organized not only the band but also ran labels called Trance Records and SSE later. After his passed away since 2006, most of titles on those labels are being out of print sadly.
Boys of Bedlam (1986)
1.THE END 2.DEAD HUMAN'S PARADISE
SODOM / Material Flower '12 EP (1986)
Released by above mentioned Trance Records. In early days they were hardcore band though they switched their style into positive punk then house music. All of their music style was great and stimulating.
Material Flower
URBAN DANCE / Ceramic Dancer '12 EP (1986)
This is a next step of Mr. Shinobu Narita (4-D), as an originator of Japanese electric music. He has worked as a music producer too and his works always have unique atmosphere.
Ceramic Love
D-DAY / Heavenly Blue (2007)
Very first D-DAY record in 20 years (or more) after Mr.Narita joined in recently. Voice of singer Yoshiko Kawakita is always there despite likely to be broken.
Yacht Harbour:
GASTUNK / Under The Sun (1987)
They used to play hardcore when they were formed then kept switching their style throughout career and present their own metal core sound. Like putting out this album through Pushead’s Pusmort back in 80’s, their activity was not limited in Japan but worldwide.
