The Stool Pigeon & The Quietus curate Ja Ja Ja @ London Lexington 24/2/11
By: Thomas Hannan

Ja Ja Ja February is a double-whammy, with not one, but two heavyweight curators for our evening of Nordic muso love-in. Phil Hebblethwaite and John Doran, respective founders of the print and on-line music bibles that are The Stool Pigeon and The Quietus, are joining forces to bring you the loudest, darkest, most out-there and frankly bonkers Ja Ja Ja yet.
The first two bands to adorn the Lexington’s stage will be Deathcrush and Årabrot. Both hail from Norway, a country where “metal is like the national folk music”– Phil Hebblethwaite. Rocksound describe Årabrot as “more extreme than anything that’s emerged from their home-land’s black metal scene of late. A hybrid of AmRep-inspired lunacy and churning industrial punishment, which veers from the perversely catchy to the downright terrifying” (in a good way that is, for they gave their latest album ‘Revenge’ 8/10). While Deathcrush simply make “filthy no-wave for dirty sluts and horny bastards” - Lars Preus, Tiger Record Store. Last on will be Kellermensch, Denmark’s existential metallers who Rockfreaks.net describe as an audio "ride through darkness and all its obscene eccentricities”. That is what I call an explosive and loud-as-f**k mix. Count me in.
