Gogglebox #17: Watch Metronomy - 'The Look'

By: Mike Harounoff

I get the feeling that 'The Look' is going to be my favourite track on the new Metronomy record. It's something about the way it builds up, yet is all kept together by that incessant synth line, and Joe's voice sounds really great too. In fact, whilst writing that succinct introduction, I gone on to decide that 'The English Riviera' is actually going to be my album of the year. F*ck you, April - December!

Produced by Warp and directed by Lorenzo Fonda, it's first worth mentioning how well shot the whole thing is for one set in such a simple enviroment. The band's performance is interspersed with shots of seagulls getting up to no good, their mischevious antics perhaps a less than subtle nod to the band's claims that the record is based on being "15 or 16 years old, at your first house parties, when you first start having a drink and a bit of weed."

After the somewhat suprising success of the brilliant 'Nights Out', it appears Metronomy could have an even bigger hit on their hands with 'The English Riviera'. It's already album of the year, you know...

The English Riviera is released on April 11th
