Listen To: Micachu vs Kwake Bass - Mixtape
By: Mike Harounoff
I think we all fondly remember thoroughly enjoying Micachu and Kwes' collaborative mix tape Kwesachu from way back in 2009, right? Some may even recall the Filthy Friends tape released a few months before. Since then Mica's treated us to her incredible debut album Jewellery and more recently a live album recorded with the London Sinfonietta, Chopped and Screwed, which paid homage to DJ Screw's technique of remixing records. Now we're giving gifted a brand new mixtape, this time a collaborative effort with Kwake Bass. 'Whodat?' you ask. Kwake Bass is a member of the genius Speakers Corner Quartet, a brilliant Jazz/Hip Hop instrumental band who are well worth checking out. Mica and Kwake go toe to toe on this guest mix for Meat Batch - all the tracks are originals of the artists and are sonically married together with perfection. Heavy on dub, hip hop and neo soul it's one of those mix tapes you can chuck on at any time and it works.
