WATCH: Bands In Transit @ The Great Escape – Part 1: Guillemots, The Joy Formidable, GROUPLOVE, Marques Toliver & Dry The River

By: Tim Dellow

The Great Escape in Brighton has fast become one of the most important dates in the music industry calendar: a first chance to experience some of the most important acts of the coming months and years performing for those in the know. For us at Rockfeedback, putting on a showcase wasn’t enough, and so we persuaded the folk at Ford to lend us a Transit Van so we could record intimate sessions with some of our favourite new acts in it at the festival.

From Marques Toliver to The Joy Formidable, from Guillemots to James Vincent McMorrow, new episodes and sessions will be finding their way onto bandsintransit.com over the coming weeks, with our first choice selection linked to here for your delectation:

Marques Toliver (Pictured) – Deep In My Heart

The lead track from his Bella Union debut EP Butterflies Are Not Free performed solo still conveys the strength and sentiment of the song despite its stripped back fashion:

The Joy Formidable – Whirring

One of our favourite bands (Jen Long confessed to having interviewed them 3 times this year alone!) and the only time we’ve seen gear smashed during an acoustic set!

GROUPLOVE – Colours

A compelling live proposition who meld Fleetwood Mac to The Pixies and drive it off the edge of the pier in a serotonin Blur. Don’t it make you feel alive?

Dry The River – Family Tree

Following their debut single on our sister label Transgressive, a stunning stripped down preview of what will certainly be a key album track on their much anticipated debut:

Guillemots (pictured) – I Must Be A Lover

Following Fyfe’s solo success a broader and darker sound from their new album with some tantalizing Jaguar desecration on this brooding hit:

And here’s the first mini-episode, with Marques Toliver explaining to John Kennedy why pebbles are things of wonderment and demonstrating perfectly his intangible genius:

See below for a selection of photos from bands we’ll be featuring as the weeks go on.
